"Not for College Days Alone" PI DEUTERON CHAPTER OF PHI GAMMA DELTA AT THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS • SPRING 2017 It's been a good winter at FIJI! Initiation was held on Saturday, February 4th. It was well attended and wonderfully executed. A hearty congratulations to our incoming Chapter President, Matt Johnson '18, his cabinet, and to the seniors who led the way before them. Thanks to Trey Woolf '19 for leading the pledge education process to its satisfactory conclusion, and for conveying the depth of our Brotherhood to our incoming initiates. A main focus in the Chapter is scholarship, as it should be. The fall 2016 GPA was a 3.2, which is up from a 3.0 last spring. This means that Pi Deuteron is ranked ninth among the Interfraternity Council (IFC) groups. It's worth noting that the distance between first and ninth among the IFC groups is a mere 0.2. We continue to organize and plan events to nurture connections between the Undergraduate and Graduate Brothers. To that end, there was a Christmas dinner in the Chapter House, which was well attended. The party continued at the Eldridge Hotel ballroom. Additionally, over 50 Graduate and Undergraduate Brothers attended an event at the Char Bar to encourage networking and fraternal regard. A spring event on April 27th is planned, see the back page for details. The second phase of the Mighty Proud campaign raised over $100,000 in the second half of 2016, and our sights are set even higher for 2017. The Chapter House requires constant upkeep to ensure that it's a place we are all proud to call home. This summer, we have plans to work on the HVAC system—by replacing the compressor and adding improved controls. In addition, the floors in the halls and bathrooms on second and third floors need to be updated. All of this work is only possible thanks to the continued generosity of Pi Deuteron Brothers. In the future, windows will also need updating, and we will have to focus on debt reduction. If you have not made a gift to Mighty Proud, it is not too late. Every gift and pledge is needed and greatly appreciated. Monetary gifts are not the only way to ensure Pi Deuteron's legacy; we also need Brothers to volunteer their time in various endeavors: • Help with graduate outreach, via an improved social media capability, would especially be appreciated from knowledgeable Graduate Brothers. • The BCA continues to struggle to gain altitude. A functioning BCA, along with an active, effective Purple Legionnaire, are goals for the spring of 2017. If you'd like to help, please let me know. • Two graduates are strongly considering joining House Corporation Board. We want and need new blood. Please let me know if you are interested. With your help we can support our Undergraduate Brothers and ensure their continued success. Fraternally, Tuffy Mayor '66 House Corporation President tuffy@mayoriiiproperties.com Perge!
