A s the active phase of our fundraising campaign winds down, we want to thank our campaign committee and our donors for their loyalty to Mu chapter. To date, we have 352 donors and have received $1,511,178 in pledges and/or donations. Note that not all our donors are members of Mu chapter, and we want to give a special shoutout to them. It is also noteworthy to recognize the special ways in which donors honored or memorialized special Delta Gammas in their lives. There are family gifts, donations from charitable foundations, the Mu collegians and the Greater Kansas City alumnae chapter. What a wonderful family we have! As the physical structure takes shape, we will still be in need of funds to help decorate and furnish this grand new house. If you haven't already participated in the campaign, we would be most grateful if you would! And, if you are in a position to add to your pledge, that would be wonderful. We are proud to have spearheaded this effort! How lucky we are to be part of such a strong chapter with so much rich history of sisterhood. In our eternal bonds of sisterhood and friendship, Marcia Hunsinger Werremeyer '67 Debbie Seebold Evans '71 Campaign Co-Chairs Mu Messenger spring 2017 Volume 7 Debbie seebold evans, editor DG Anchored in Tradition, Supported by Alumnae Campaign Surpasses $1.5 Million Because of You! A s I think back on this journey to build a new home for our chapter, I think about all the efforts of our amazing house corporation officers, our campaign committee members, our interior decorating committee, the collegiate women and especially our amazing donors! The gifts of talent and treasure toward giving Mu chapter a new home will culminate this August when the collegiate women move into our new house. Mu chapter began this journey on April 15, 1909, when 16 women were initiated into the Fraternity's newest chapter: Mu chapter of Delta Gamma Fraternity. The chapter has grown to more than 2,800 women now. Our first home was leased at 814 Virginia Avenue. Other rented homes were at 902 Virginia Avenue, 1910-1915; 315 Hitt Street, 1915-1918; and 900 Rollins, 1918-1920. In 1920, a white frame colonial at 904 Providence Road was purchased for the sum of $20,000; however, this home burned down at Christmas in 1932. The chapter rented 903 Burnham from 1933 to 1936. Construction on our third home began in 1936 and was built for $50,000. Life Magazine (circa 1937) said that it "houses 36 of Big Missouri's best and prettiest girls…." This house provided for our women through May 2015. It underwent many changes and the biggest was in 1984 when the "Ship of Dreams" project expanded the chapter house up from the basement to the third floor in the back of the house with new sleeping rooms, bathrooms and living space for all the members to share. It was said then that, "Mu chapter of Delta Gamma gave her anchor a ship…a Ship of Dreams. The ship is a vessel of hope, propelled by the belief that dreams can become destiny, if one lays a courageous course, and keeps to the bearing." This house served our membership for 78 years. Now it is time to embark on a new home for us at 900 South Providence Road and the new home will be our destiny for years to come. If you have not yet joined this project, please do. If you already have, thank you so very much!
