R yan Colameo '07 graduated from Colgate University in 2007 and accepted his com- mission as a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps on graduation day. He spent nearly nine years in the United States Marine Corps, where he excelled as an AH-1Z pilot, flight lead, and instructor. During his last year of service, Ryan began to explore and expand the capabilities of simulator technology, culminating in successfully linking nearly two dozen dissimilar training devices into a virtual network. This venture included avia- tion, ground force, and command and control elements to provide an integrated and realistic training scenario, leveraging modern technology to replicate real-life missions. He published his work in November 2016 in The Marine Corps Gazette in an article titled "The Tip of the Live Virtual Constructive Spear: Im- proving Our Ability to Integrate Simulation." The article focuses on the opportunities to in- clude aviation, ground, and command and con- trol elements into realistic training networks to better prepare war fighters for future conflict. Ryan has since left the Marine Corps and is pur- suing his MBA at the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business. Brother Adam Pellegrini '10 is the lead author on a study published last month in the scientific journal Ecology Letters entitled "Convergence of bark investment according to fire and climate structures ecosystem vulnerability to future change." The study suggests that bark thickness may help predict which tree species within vary- ing ecosystems will survive a warmer climate in which wildfires are expected to increase in fre- quency. The study was funded by the National Science Foundation and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association. Adam graduated from Colgate with a degree in biology, completed his Ph.D. at Princeton in 2016 and is now a NOAA Climate and Global Change Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford Univer- sity. Adam led the study while a graduate student in Princeton's Department of Ecology and Evo- lutionary Biology. Mystic Circle A brother dead and brothers mourning Fill the heart with grief today, And the earnest grasp fraternal; Speaks, "a dear one passed away." Yes, no longer we shall greet thee In the halls of DKE, Yet thy name in sweet remembrance Graven on our hearts will be. We have parted, Brother, parted, As we trust, to meet again, In a full unbroken circle, Free from sorrow, grief and pain.
