Smith '14 "Assessing employees, dealing with any personality in a positive way, re- solving conflicts—I learned all that at DKE," Sam Lee '73 said. "Those skills helped me become successful as a manager and in my career." Sam's career started out in microbiology, but at a time when biologists weren't in high demand. Knowing he wanted to do something more, Sam jumped on a chance to work for Chubb Insurance as they were looking for someone with a hospital background to become part of a hospital loss prevention group. More than 30 years later, Sam retired as vice president of risk management services for a subsidiary of Chubb. The legacy systems he developed are still in place. So, when Sam looks back on how DKE helped shape him in those early years, the decision to give back to the renovation of the Temple was clear. "Everyone knows the story of the Chapter and it's my dream that through the work of Sean Devlin '05 and others, we'll be back on campus one day. By funding this campaign, we know the Temple will still be there for us. "We need to have the opportunity to mold young men like we were in the past. The best thing about DKE is that everyone is different when we come in. The house molds you and you become a better person. Everyone sup- ports each other and you know that when the time comes, brothers always have your back and always watch out for you." Relationships with DKE brothers have continued over the years for Sam, with annual fishing trips with brothers from his class. "Even though I don't see these guys every day, if someone has a problem, everyone wants to help, just like when we were at the DKE house. We all had dif- ferent points of view, but when it came to crunch time, we were there for one another." Why I Give—Sam Lee '73 When it came to crunch time, we were there for one another. Sam and his wife, Karen, make their home in Long Branch, New Jer- sey, and have two daughters and four grandchildren. Sam is taking full advantage of retirement, traveling extensively, with a goal to see the eight wonders of the world. Recent trips have taken him to Mongo- lia and Laos, with South Africa coming up later this year. He can be reached at samklee73@yahoo.com. R egister today if you have not already done so.
