PAGE 3 UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA Winter House Updates Help Prepare for Larger Summer Projects Theta Gamma Going Green with New Water Device T he House Corporation is always busy at the chapter house during winter break. We touched up the paint in every room and had the carpets cleaned. When the sisters returned from break, the house was immaculate. We also had to replace a large portion of pipe between the kitchen and the city pipe at the street this year. This required going through our sidewalk on the west side of the house. The pipes are now replaced with the grass and sidewalk to follow. During the last year, we have updated the stalls in two of our bathrooms. We completed this project by finishing the stalls in the third bathroom and installing efficient, quiet hand dryers in each of the three main bathrooms. This will cut the chapter's cost of paper towels, an expense that generates a lot of trash. The heating and air company started working in the attic and crawl spaces to prepare for the new heat and air conditioning system being installed this summer. There is only a short time between the young women moving out of the house in May and their return in late July, so we decided to get this project underway now. We needed to start this work while the young women were away from the house for the holidays. After they completed this task, we had the security company recheck all of our attic heat sensors to verify that we did not accidently disable them. We also completed one upgrade requested from our chapter members. For many years, they bought soft drinks out of vending machines in the laundry room. However, during the last several years, college students have moved away from bottled soft drinks toward bottled water. Therefore, we removed the vending machines from the chapter house and added a device that fills water bottles with cold filtered water. They absolutely love it. On the machine, there is a screen indicating how many bottles are filled a day, and it is averaging between 100 and 150 bottles per day!
