This is the credo I try to live by. Gary Glidden recently had the op- portunity to create a mural on the Road Runner Market in Quartzsite Arizona. He said he was excited to have the chance to share his art with the Quartzite community, and to hopefully add some beauty and share his love of this wonderful place. The incredible sunsets, color- ful clouds, rich blue sky, the sur- rounding mountains, birds, plant life and desert rocks that help make Quartzsite and La Paz Valley so beau- tiful. These were the elements that inspired Glidden's mural. His rela- tives have been making Quartzsite their winter home for 3 generations. Starting with his Great Uncle Happy Black and Grand Father Ellis Black; his mother Norma (Black/Glid- den) Wilske, Aunt Colleen Maynes (Black/Dickerson), Uncle Lee Black, Cousin Connie Bush all currently call Quartzsite home. When he's am not creating art, he works in the family business Bean- fi elds Snacks that was founded by his brothers Roy and Reed Glidden (the family rockhounds) and Reed's wife Liza. They have a family winter home here in Quartzsite and even sell their family-owned brand of Beanfi elds Bean & Rice tortilla chips locally at the Road Runner Market. After agreeing on the details of the mural project with the owner of the Road Runner Steve Poole, Glidden stated his trip from Ogden Utah (his home) to Quartzsite. With art sup- plies in tow, Glidden hit the road with his two dogs Edgar and Tag. He settled into his family's place and got ready to paint the mural. Glidden enjoyed the experience of painting this mural very much. He received encouragement, hand- shakes, pats on the back, and every- thing that make a person feel wel- come and appreciated. "I've had the privilege of created murals and works of art from Alaska to Florida and I consider it an honor to be given the chance to share my gift where ever I go, for me travel and meeting new people is inspir- ing and helps fuels my creativity," said Glidden. He continued, "I sincerely hope that the Road Runner mural adds a little beauty and joy to everyone who passes by. I am proud to now call Quartzsite my second home, look forward to meeting more folks in the community, and sharing my art with everyone." New mural at Roadrunner Market Rattlesnakes and dogs don't mix. Thousands of dogs are bitten by rattlesnakes each year. Most dogs recover but not without a great deal of pain, suffering and expense. Dogs can be trained to stay away from rattlesnakes. The pro- cess works by introducing the dog to caged, live, rattlesnakes and when the dog's attention is on the reptiles, giving the dog a shock from an electronic collar. The dog is not harmed but quickly learns to avoid rattlesnakes. Date: February 11, 2017 Cost: $80 per dog Place: QIA, 235 Ironwood St. NW corner of lot.
