They are booked for 2 shows each on January 15 and 16 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Paul has been playing music for most of his life, and the members of his little orchestra as he calls it, have all been very involved in the music business for many, many, years. His boyhood friend Will Pirone (Ol' Willy Boy) has been playing blues harmon- ica since high school. He and Paul have played together their younger life, and have reconnected in the past several years to play again at the Q.I.A. shows. Will is coming here for a longer period this year, so he will be at the Senior Center for all of Paul's concerts there as well as the ones at the Q.I.A. in February. Steve Hohstadt, guitar player and musical engineer, is a friend who Paul just met after long time guitar player Jerry Mullins passed away last year. Steve sat in on Paul's concert at the Q.I.A. and they started playing music together on a regular basis. Steve has Paul Winer concert helped Paul tremendously to remix some of the music from several of his shows, and it has turned into 2 new CDs, which are now available. Bud- dy Apfel is another member of the "orchestra." He plays tuba and slide trombone and has played in some of the biggest jazz bands as well as with Guy Lombardo at one time. His tuba playing really enhances the music of the piano, harmonica and guitar. Ray Zimpher has also played at some of the shows with his beautiful trumpet additions to the songs, and there have been other additions to the ensemble along the way that play occasionally. Ralph Martin has been playing one- string wash tub bass with Paul since the fi rst shows. He has been a musi- cian in Quartzsite for over 35 years, but retired from playing so often just last year. He came out of retirement for a couple of Paul's local shows this past year, and had planned to play the concerts coming up, but is now recov- ering from pneumonia in the Parker hospital. He said if he can make it to play again with Paul and the guys, he will be at the shows coming up. We wish him a speedy recovery!! These musicians play all kinds of music from country, jazz, boogie woo- gie, blues and gospel. They each lend a great sound to Paul's songs, and some of them have written songs that will be included in the shows as well.
