Winter set in in earnest Wednesday morning when snow began to fall. Early ris- ers saw the first small parti- cles gently fall to the earth. By daylight the housetops had taken on the mantel of white but the atmosphere was not cold enough to harden the ground and the flakes melted almost as fast as they fell. The snowfall kept up all day long increasing in in- tensity at times. Toward evening the streets became sloppy and as night came on things grew slippery and the snow began to collect. During the night the fall in- creased. Local Forecaster Cun- ningham expects to see a continuation of bad weather today. The conditions are good for more snow. The fall in the mountains has been quite heavy and the trails in many places are blocked by drifts. The rough weather in this section will be hard on stock if it continues and the ground freezes so the snow will not melt. — Dec. 28, 1916 100 YEARS AGO...
