December 21, 2016 www.DesertMessenger.com 27 Submitted by Trevon Tapp Finals are approaching and stu- dents are feeling the pressure, es- pecially those who have diffi cult or intricate tests on their horizons. Students are working their hardest and they have to make some sacri- fi ces. This means no binge watch- ing any shows, no hanging out with friends, no distractions. Whatever the outcome, everyone has to chin up and brave the storm. Salome High School has two stu- dents who plan to go into the mili- tary after high school. Both Kim- berly Bryant and Tyler Luz have completed the entrance process for joining the Army. Kimberly Bryant said, "I chose to join the military because I wanted to push myself to do better, mentally and physically." Tyler Luz stated, "I wanted to join so I can serve our great country." They are both nervous about a few things, but they're excited to experience and take advantage of the great opportu- nities this will provide for them. Salome High has added a new club to their list of extracurricular activ- ities: dance club! The new club will encourage students to have fun and be active. Mr. McCarty is the club's sponsor, and Denisse Franco is cho- reographing the dances. Members of dance club plan to perform dur- ing Salome High sporting events. This year, many groups such as the senior class, yearbook, and student council are participating in Secret Santa activities. They are very ex- cited to be included in this fun tra- dition. StuCo was the fi rst group to do their gift exchange, and students were very happy with what they received. Some got snacks such as candy and soda, others were given gift cards and body wash. This year is going to be a different one at Salome High School. Usu- ally every year the students only attend homecoming and prom. This year Salome High School's Student Council has decided to put on a winter formal for all of the students. The dance will be held on January 13, 2017. Sa- lome High School hasn't hosted a winter formal in over fi fteen years. The student body is ex- cited to revive an old school tradition. Salome High updates attend homecoming and prom.
