WINTER HOURS November thru March Mon- Sat 9am-1pm QUARTZSITE COMMUNITY THRIFT STORE READER'S OASIS BOOKS 690 E. Main - Quartzsite (one block east of Family Dollar) 928-927-6551 Submitted by Linda Taylor The weatherman was wrong on his forecast for our tournament and we were very glad. However, as we were fi nishing up our rounds, it did turn into a "hold on to your hat" kind of day. Despite the windy conditions, we had some incredible scores. Rainbow is a fun place to play, but many fi nd it to be a tough chipping course. No so for the winning combo of Bill Toner and Russ Leininger who had an exceptional round of 36. They were closely challenged by the team of Pete Lilly and Mac McLean with their score of 37. We had a tie for 3rd with the teams of Cletus Winkler & Linda Taylor and Bob Carrington & Dean Linden each shot scores of 39. Men's closest to the pin on #8 was won by Robert Barnard and closest to the pin on #9 was Russ Leininger. On the long drive hole #13, men winners were Cletus Winkler, Chester Henry and Russ Leininger. La- dies long drive went to Linda Taylor. In the hole-in-one competition on hole #1, there were 3 winners: Mac McLean, Russ Leininger, and Jerry Taylor. We have our next scheduled tournament on Friday, December 30 starting at 9. Two tournaments are set for January, the 6th and 27th. Come on out to have a great time with fellow hackers! Questions, call Jerry at 208-405-3311. Rainbow Acres Golf By HerbMama Anxiety can affect our lives dra- matically. In a time when our soci- ety is more stressed than perhaps ever before, feelings of anxiety have become an everyday occurrence in many people's lives. Anxiety dis- orders are also becoming more prevalent. Because of this, natural anxiety remedies are more relevant than ever. Magnesium (Mg), a vital mineral is perhaps one of the most important natural anxiety remedies because of its effectiveness, record of safe use, availability and value. Anxiety can impair concentration and causes sleeplessness, it increas- es the risk for illness, chronic back problems and even fatal accidents. Truly, anxiety can damage you men- tally, physically & emotionally. Although there are numerous anxi- ety medications in the market today, these medications can only relieve some of the symptoms of anxiety and are not a long-term solution. Anxiety medications come with a long list of side effects and safety concerns, not the least of which is the risk of drug dependence. Did you know that magnesium contributes to over 375 processes throughout the human body and is used by our bodies to make over 300 different enzymes! Mental and physical stress, with its related continuous fl ow of adrenaline, uses up magnesium rapidly, as adren- aline affects heart rate, blood pres- sure, vascular constriction and muscle contractions, actions that all demand steady supplies of magnesium for smooth function. The nervous system depends upon suffi cient magnesium for its calming effects, including rest- ful sleep. Staying in the anxious state also causes the body to use up greater quantities of magnesium. Magnesium naturally calms the nervous system and the muscles (leg cramps at night/restless leg syndrome); whereas, a defi ciency can result in a tense body and an anxious mind. Eating foods that are rich in mag- nesium is an important step in correcting a defi ciency naturally. Magnesium can be found most abundantly in coconut water, kelp, cashews, buckwheat, molasses, bra- zil nuts, pumpkin seeds, cocoa pow- der, rice bran, nettles, spinach, cof- fee, Swiss chard, almonds, avocado, bananas, almonds, peanut butter, raisins, oatmeal, halibut, cooked black-eyed peas, baked potato with skin, natural plain yogurt, cooked lentils, sea vegetables, chickweed, bone broths, whole grains -- as re- fi ned grains remove 80-97% of mag- nesium. Look at all the magnesium rich foods out there!!! Those with anxiety might benefi t from magnesium supplementation. The optimum daily amount should be between 500-700 mg and depend- ing on if you need more, work your way up. Too much magnesium can cause loose stools & may signify your body isn't absorbing it properly. Try smaller doses throughout the day. Magnesium citrate, magnesium glycinate & magnesium chloride are among the most absorbable forms. Magnesium oil & Epsom salts can also be used externally to boost magnesium levels.
