SIMPSON University for Seniors now seeking students An exploded lamp about 4 o'clock yesterday morn- ing caused a fire in Chi- natown that did about $2,000 worth of damage. The fire started in a one- story shack occupied by an old Chinaman and spread to other small buildings adjoining. The newly com- pleted and furnished Chi- nese club building to the north of the fire suffered also. The building was gut- ted by the fire and the con- tents destroyed. Both engine compa- nies responded to the alarm and soon had three streams working on the fire. The prompt arrival of the companies and their quick action confined the fire to the buildings al- ready afire. — Dec. 20, 1916 100 YEARS AGO...
