AChristiancannot stand in his faith with- out the sacrifice of Jesus as his Savior. As sons and daughters of the Kingdom of Jesus, the Cross is the foundation from which we receive eternal life. The word of God that is written down truly is why we believe and have sub- mitted ourselves to a life- style of obedience. Believ- ers must study the Word of God to have it written on their hearts. Thus a holy life of faith becomes sec- ond nature. Soon a great thirst is de- veloped and one begins to seek a personal rela- tionship with the Father (found in John 17:21). Je- sus gave the high priestly prayer in the Garden of Ol- ives. "That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me." Now Jesus was flesh and blood while on earth. God is spirit, and what tran- spires to have the Spirit in- side of Him and His dis- ciples? Remember Jesus breathed on the disci- ples and sent them out to proclaim the light of the world was on earth. This was manifested by mira- cles of healing and casting out demons. The evidence of the power of God begins with the souls of men whom have chosen Jesus as their Savior. They have devel- oped a strong relation- ship with Jesus, and have authority to proclaim the Good News. The Holy Spirit came upon the believers at Pen- tecost and has never left. Paul lays out in detail how to receive such power (found in 1 Corinthians 12). Peter demonstrated such abilities at Cornelius' house, and preached the good news of forgiveness. Then the Holy Spirit fell on the entire household of Cornelius (Acts 10:34-46). The person who asks for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit has a surprise com- ing! Jesus is our model to emulate as followers of His lead. Jesus' will was sub- mitted to the will of the Father even unto death (Philippians 2:8). Now as we surrender our will to the Holy Spirit and learn to hear His voice, we begin to know the difference from our own thoughts. As this pro- cess develops, we must let go of some of the dogma of man. The learning grows and we find how differ- ent God deals with man. Spiritual gifts come in measure, and the more you grasp, the greater the anointing. The exam- ple is when Paul declared in1 Corinthians 14:18 "I thank God I speak more in tongues than you all." When conversing with the Holy Spirit He is al- ways kind and loving, even when you may be repri- manded . To many be- lievers this is what Je- sus meant in the scripture "I came that they might have life and might have it abundantly" (John10:10). Paul explains (in Ephe- sians 1:17-19) of opening up our spirit to receive heav- enly wisdom and knowl- edge. When our hearts are open we can draw close to our heavenly Father. He applies our biblical knowl- edge so we may under- stand things of difficulty and things too great for us. The Lord desires for us to use our knowledge al- ready stored in our hearts to be helpful to others in life's travels. Spiritual gifts are used in many ways. The gifts help in fellowship, at work and at home. They bring hope, peace, direction and comfort, not only to peo- ple we minister, but also our families. When insight is applied to problems and difficulties, we solve them easily. In time, spir- itual gifts begin to grow and others appear when needed. Here is where the Holy Spirit's will is always applied. We cannot ignore Ro- mans 12, 1 Corinthians 12, Ephesians 4, or 1Peter 4:9- 10. These scriptures are listings of different gifts the Lord gives His peo- ple. They bring fulfillment to the lives of His children with love and assurance. BrentKohlerhasalways loved the Lord, beginning at age five. He became focused at 20 when he put on the new man. He has pastored in six churches over a period of 50 years. He is now semi-retired at 81, lives in Red Bluff and can be reached at lynandbrent@aol.com. GODTALK Life beyond the cross Brent Kohler Pope Francis is marking his 80th birthday on Saturday with a morning Mass with his cardinals and an otherwise "normal" day of back-to-back meetings and audienc- es. Francis isn't one to make a big deal about birthdays, but his decision to celebrate a special Mass in the Paoline Chapel of the Apostolic Palace suggests that even he recognizes 80 is a significant milestone. The chapel is where Francis spent his first minutes in prayer a er being elected in 2013. The Boston Globe reports (http://bit.ly/2hlW25q ) the furry rodents have chewed through electrical wires for the colorful, festive lights strung in trees on Boston Common. City parks officials say they've received numerous reports about holiday light outages on the city's online reporting app. One recent visitor noted nearly half the lights on the Common's 47-foot Christmas tree were out, an issue the city says has since been addressed. The lights are hanging in about 60 trees, the visi- tor's center and other build- ings in the historic down- town park. The contractor hired to string and maintain the lights has turned to using an animal repellent derived from hot peppers to deter the animals. A parks de- partment spokesman says the squirrels appear to have a fondness for copper. BOSTON Squirrels are gnawing around the Christmas trees PLEASE RECYCLE THIS NEWSPAPER. Thankyou!
