Each year parents are encouraged to bring their kids downtown, next to the State Theatre at 331 Oak St., to create holiday cra s. The art center will provide a wide variety of cra items. The kids provide their imaginations and handiwork to create whatever they wish. There have been incredible ornaments, gi s, hats and many other things created at the event. Organizers are looking for volunteers to help during the event. It is a good way to earn community service hours in a fun atmosphere. Call Chrissie Clapp at 527-7824 to help. This will be the last event in the Oak Street venue before it moves to 710 Main St. in 2017 to the new basement Green Room. GREENROOM Art center to hold Elves Workshops for kids CaltransDistrict2,along with contractor Steve Man- ning, Inc., have resumed work on State Route 299W at Big French Creek Road following two rock slides on Monday. During the slides about 100 thousand cubic yards of debris fell into the catch- mentareaandontotheroad. Caltrans Inspectors and Ge- ologists believe there could still be about 200 thousand more cubic yards on the hill. Due to the constant activity on the hillside, and for the safety of all motorists, Cal- trans will construct a tem- porary detour, about 350 feet long, along State Route 299, adjacent to the existing roadway. Due to the construction of the temporary detour, the road will not open to one- way controlled traffic until the week of Jan. 8. At the same time, Caltrans will be working on removing addi- tional slide material. "We understand that having the road closed is an inconvenience, but we do appreciate the coopera- tion of the traveling public," said Caltrans Project Man- ager Matt Gowan. "Our in- terest at Caltrans is for the safe transportation of the traveling public and that's why we had to close this." Caltrans is recommend- ing motorists use State Routes 20, 36 or Interstate 5 as alternate routes. Call the Road Construc- tion hotline for the latest information at 225-3452 or follow the district on Twitter after hours @Cal- transD2.
