Thefollowingdefendants were sentenced in Tehama County Superior Court, according to the Tehama County District Attorney's Office: RecentState/Local Prison Commitments: People vs. Trevor Scott James, Possession of Stolen Vehicle; Criminal Threats. Brief history: In Octo- ber 2015, video surveil- lance from an apartment complex laundromat cap- tured the defendant steal- ing women's underwear out of a dryer and shoving them down his pants. The defen- dant was observed driving away in a green Subaru. When police contacted the defendant in the Subaru the following day, they de- termined the vehicle was stolen, and located a back- pack containing the stolen underwear, in addition to 18 other pairs of women's un- derwear in various sizes. The defendant pled guilty in December and was or- dered to return to court on Jan. 26, 2016 for sentenc- ing. On Jan. 26, 2016, the defendant called in three separate bomb threats and described several loca- tions in which bombs were planted in the Tehama County Courthouse. Police located a suspicious cylin- der-shaped device inside the courthouse and evacu- ated the entire block. When police contacted the defen- dant at his residence, they located the mobile device used to call in the bomb threats, as well as electri- cal tape and a nylon strap matching the device found in the courthouse. Sentenced to a total of 14 years, 8 months state prison. Recent County Jail Commitments: People vs. Christopher Thompson, Second Degree Commercial Burglary; Car- rying Dirk or Dagger. Brief history: Over the course of one month, the defendant stole surveillance cameras from outside a lo- cal business and repeatedly broke into a locked storage shed, stealing about $1,000 worth of items. Addition- ally, two mattresses, gar- bage and receipts for re- cent purchases were left inside. Police used the date and times on the receipt to look at surveillance footage and observed the defendant making all the purchases. When the defendant was later contacted, he admit- ted stealing the cameras to trade for drugs and police located a knife on his per- son that matched the pry marks on the lock of the storage shed. Following his arrest, he was released on his own recognizance and failed to appear for court. When the defendant was eventually contacted by police, they located a fixed blade knife under his shirt and methamphetamine in his pocket. Sentenced to 5 years for- mal probation, 210 days jail, and 80 hours community service. People vs. Anselmo Her- nandez, Possession of Sto- len Vehicle. Brief history: On Dec. 3, the victim reported her ve- hicle stolen from her drive- way and believed her ex- boyfriend, the defendant, had taken a key to the ve- hicle when he moved from the residence two weeks prior. Later that day, po- lice learned the vehicle had been returned to the vic- tim's driveway. When they arrived on scene, police lo- cated the defendant in the victim's backyard. The de- fendant refused to com- ply with the officers' com- mands and a struggle en- sued. During the struggle, the key to the victim's ve- hicle fell out of the defen- dant's front pocket. Sentenced to 5 years for- mal probation, 120 days jail, and 80 hours community service. People vs. Fallon Rivera, Possession of Stolen Vehi- cle. Brief history: On April 9, 2015, agents conducted a "knock and talk" enforce- ment operation at a res- idence where the defen- dant was staying. During a search of the defendant's bedroom, agents located methamphetamine, nine hypodermic syringes, and 300 rounds of rifle ammu- nition. Sentenced to 5 years for- mal probation and 228 days jail. People vs. Michael Sean O'Connor, Injuring a Spouse or Cohabitant. Brief history: During an argument with the defen- dant, the victim ran out- side and began scream- ing for help. The defendant grabbed the victim by her hair and pulled her into the garage. Once inside, the de- fendant pinned her on the ground, covered her mouth and pinched her nose for about 10 seconds and said "I'm going to make it worth going to prison." When po- lice arrived, the victim was hysterically crying and had visible redness and bruising to her face, shoulders and neck. The victim stated the defendant was her boy- friend and described a pre- vious incident from two weeks prior in which he at- tempted to suffocate and strangle her. Sentenced to 5 years for- mal probation, 120 days jail, 80 hours community service, and a suspended prison term of 4 years, 8 months. People vs. Connor O'Brien, Injuring a Spouse or Cohabitant After a Prior Conviction. Brief history: On Sept. 19, the victim went to the home of her ex-boyfriend, the defendant, for a child custody exchange. When she arrived, the defen- dant came out to the drive- way and a verbal argu- ment ensued. The defen- dant got into the victim's vehicle and began driving down the driveway. When the victim approached her vehicle, the defendant got out but blocked the driv- er's side door to prevent her from leaving. When the vic- tim attempted to get inside the vehicle, the defendant shoved her in the chest and hit her in the mouth before grabbing the keys from the ignition and throwing them outside. Sentenced to 5 years for- mal probation under terms of Behavioral Health Court and 180 days jail. People vs. Vicente Ma- dina, Conspiracy to Sell Methamphetamine. Brief history: The de- fendant was arrested dur- ing an undercover sting at Rolling Hills Casino after selling methamphetamine inside the casino. The de- fendant had a prior felony conviction in 2012 for pos- sessing a controlled sub- stance for sale. Sentenced to 5 years for- mal probation, 180 days jail, 80 hours community service, and a suspended prison term of 7 years. People vs. Edgar Rodri- guez, Possession of Con- trolled Substance After Specified Prior Conviction. Brief history: The defen- dant was arrested after fail- ing to register as a sex of- fender. During a search of his person, officers located a hypodermic needle and a baggy containing meth- amphetamine. The defen- dant said he forgot to reg- ister upon his release from jail because he just wanted to "get high." Sentenced to 3 years for- mal probation, 150 days jail, and 80 hours community service. People vs. Jose Arre- ola Cervantes, Injuring a Spouse after a Prior Con- viction. Brief history: The defen- dant and victim are married and have seven children. During a verbal argument, the defendant punched the victim in the face with a closed fist, grabbed her by the arm and threw her to the ground. The victim then ran to her bedroom and closed the door. The defendant forced the door open, causing it to come of the hinges and break. The defendant then got on top of the victim and repeatedly punched and kicked her in the presence of all the chil- dren. Sentenced to 5 years for- mal probation, 180 days jail, and 100 hours community service. One of the defend- ants would drive the victim to Gridley so that he could have sex with another de- fendant on weekends. Brief history: The defen- dant confronted the victim regarding an alleged theft. During the confrontation, the victim was shot multi- ple times. PTC: December 19, at 1:15 pm in Department 3 People vs. Suren Patel, public officer crime, perjury by declaration, theft from elder or dependent adult, grand theft, workers' com- pensation fraud, conspiracy to commit a crime, 2 counts Brief history: Patel was the owner and manager of a motel in Red Bluff and is an elected Red Bluff City Coun- cilman. In running his mo- tel, Patel employed people to provide maid and main- tenance services. Based on an initial investigation, it was determined that Patel failed to provide accurate information to his work- ers' compensation insur- ance carrier. Additionally, Patel used a motel custom- er's credit card to his advan- tage without the consent of the customer. Additionally, as a motel owner and oper- ator, Patel was entrusted by the city of Red Bluff to col- lect from each motel guest Transient Occupancy Tax and to provide such tax to the city each month.
