SIGMA PHI EPSILON O ver the past semester, the brothers of Colorado Alpha have been involved in a variety of activities. We have continued to grow our membership and we are proud of our social standing at the University of Colorado. A Path to Academic Success During the spring 2015 semester, we noticed a drop in the Chapter's overall GPA, which dropped our second place ranking to sixth. In light of this news, it seemed that we needed to make some changes. We have increased brother mentors by 50% and increased grade check-ins overall to ensure that we are on a path to academic success. As the year continues, we hope to see big changes in our Chapter's GPA. Checking for Cancer Raises $18,000 We hosted our main philanthropic event, Checking for Cancer, for the third year in 2016. For the event, members from all chapters within the fraternity community are brought together to form two teams and play against each other in a friendly game of hockey. This past spring, we were able to donate over $18,000 to the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research with funds raised from the event. We look forward to raising even more money for the cause in our fourth year. Welcoming New SigEps This fall, we welcomed 28 new members into the Chapter. We hosted several brotherhood events throughout 2016, but the Chapter's favorite was a golf tournament. While this was the first time we've organized a golf tournament, we are happy to report more than 70 brothers participated! Thanking Our Parents Over the past year, we also hosted events celebrating our parents. Dad's Weekend was full of skiing and snowboarding at Arapahoe Basin, while Mom's Weekend in Boulder featured hiking, dinner, and a silent auction. Our Chapter always enjoys these weekends as an opportunity to thank our parents for their support and show them our fantastic brotherhood. The fall semester was a busy and exciting time for Colorado Alpha as we dedicated ourselves to success in all endeavors. Please know you are always welcome to stop by the Chapter House anytime you are in Boulder.
