Kappa Kappa Gamma 5 Kappa Keeps Us Strong B eing involved in a high school sorority, Anna Bruce Fugier '69 wanted to continue her sorority experience in her years at Colorado State. Unlike many, Anna understood as she stepped onto CSU's campus that her sorority sisters would remain her friends for the many years to come. And for Anna, this remained true. Anna has several fond memories from her time living in the Kappa chapter house as an undergraduate member: pinnings, pranks, cooking artichokes in her popcorn popper, friends playing the guitar, and playing hearts after dinner because no one knew how to play bridge. She cherishes the wonderful friendships she left CSU with the most. Anna continues these friendships today, not only in her business as a Realtor, but also in her free time. "We get together as often as we can. We have girls' weekends at the home of Mary Lisman '70 in Texas, Jane Ford Miller '71 in Florida, and Mary Mars Ostman '72 in Minnesota," Anna said. She encourages alumnae to reconnect with their sisters as she has seen the strength and enjoyment of connecting with her Kappa sisters. "Being a member of a strong group of friends gives us all strength," Anna said. She offers up advice to current undergraduate members to "always have fun! Those four years go by way too fast!" Anna said. Both of her sons, Garrett and Rian, graduated from CSU, so Anna has had the chance to visit the chapter house and meet some of the women living in it. "The house looks lovely, the girls are very nice and helpful." Anna and her husband, Dick, live in Denver, Colorado. Anna and Dick enjoy playing and walking with their sons dogs, Chauncey and Samson. She also enjoys water aerobics, bowling, and golf. You can reach her at fugiers@ comcast.net. "Being a member of a strong group of friends gives us all strength." F rom Fort Collins to Seattle to Hawaii, Nadine Murray '57 takes leadership wherever she goes. She first had the chance to practice her leadership skills at Epsilon Beta over 50 years ago. Nadine was chapter president of Epsilon Beta in 1958 and graduated that same year. Kappa taught Nadine valuable leadership skills when she lived in the chapter house that she has continued to carry with her throughout the years. Nadine enjoyed getting to know women from many different places and hearing everyone's stories while living in the house. That experience also allowed Nadine to gain tolerance for different ways of thinking, as she interacted with several types of Epsilon Beta women. She was encouraged to be creative when it came to planning her future. Nadine encourages the undergraduates to do just the same, "Be creative. Think broadly, keeping in mind the world in which you are living. Be open to opportunities when they are offered. Be prepared to create your own job if one does not immediately appear. Set goals and be serious about why you are there but don't forget to laugh and enjoy the journey," Nadine said. After earning her master's degree, Nadine had the chance to teach in Houston, Philadelphia, and lastly at the University of Washington in Seattle, where she now calls home. After teaching for 10 years, she managed low income housing in Seattle. Nadine and her husband, John, farm flowers in Maui, Hawaii, for part of the year. They deliver bulk and wholesale fresh tropical flowers from Hawaii; you can read more about them at www.cloudflowerprotea.com. While not in Hawaii, Nadine lives out her love for flowers as a member of the Seattle Garden Club. Nadine and John have one son, John, who is married to Joanna. John and Joanna have two children, Nadine's granddaughters, Isabella and Tasmyn. You can reach Nadine at nhmurray@comcast.net.
