Nu Chapter of Chi Omega at the University of Wisconsin • Fall 2016 THE NU'S Χ Ω Nu Chapter Launches Alumnae Relations Program House Corporation Invests in Chapter House Renovations, Alumnae Communication A few years ago, I received a letter from a brave, young Nu Chapter president, Rachel Blitt '12. In her letter she explained the Chapter House at 115 Langdon was in need of major repair. Being built in the early 1900s, the house was in need of renovations, including the plumbing, electrical, heating, and outdated furnishings. The letter motivated me to reach out, and in January of 2015, I visited the Chapter House and saw Rachel's concerns were true. After a visit from Chi Omega National Office, a new House Corporation Board was installed to fulfill the needs of the growing Chapter and I agreed to join. House Corporation Implements Chapter House Renovations The new board selected a partnership with Tri-North Builders, a company specialized in sorority and fraternity chapter house renovations. Tri-North helped us create a phased renovation and a local Madison retailer, Zander's Interiors, helped with furnishings. We have updated the Chapter room, foyer, library/study room, and the TV room in the basement. Last summer, Tri- North removed and replaced an old boiler and asbestos-wrapped pipes on the heating system. Additionally, we installed wall-mounted room air conditioners throughout the Chapter House. These new units are highly efficient and the best solution for our aging home. The units also give us the possibility of summer rental options and conferences, and once all the renovations are complete, the House Corporation will be able to generate more revenue year-round. We are thrilled with our renovations, but know we have more work to complete in the future. The House Corporation is strategically assessing the membership needs to make sure we can offer a competitive, safe, and beautiful Chi Omega home. New Alumnae Relations Program To increase our communication with our alumnae, we have decided to distribute semiannual newsletters to all Nu Chapter alumnae, undergraduate members, and their parents. The two newsletters will contain alumnae news, details on upcoming events, reports from the undergraduate members, and information on the University of Wisconsin. Once a year, we will send a biographical update that allows alumnae to update the information we have on record. In fact, many of you have received and responded to this mailing already. These updates are a vital tool in maintaining our records and ensuring Nu Chapter alumnae stay connected. We hope you enjoy this newsletter, the latest addition to our alumnae communication program. We also hope to see many new and familiar faces at our events this year and encourage alumnae to reach out to Nu Chapter to become more involved. Thank you for your continued support of our Chapter through alumnae involvement and guidance. If you ever find yourself in Madison, we would love for you to stop by the Chapter House to see the renovations and visit with undergraduate members. Loyally, Kathy Suckow Murtfeldt '72 House Corporation VP and Project Manager (408) 384-2571 kmurtfeldt@aol.com Nu Chapter partnered with Tri-North Builders to renovate areas of the Chapter House, including the basement TV room and Chapter room. Library renovations were completed this summer.
