Generally SPEaking page 2 CHAPTER HOUSE INTERIOR RENOVATIONS BEGIN SigEp Looks Ahead to Future Renovations T he Chapter House has not seen a major change in many years and is quite outdated, which has hurt our recruiting. While we have a great location and one of the largest houses on campus, we are competing against new and up-to-date chapters. As many of you may know, we have been attempting to repair and renovate the house at Alabama Alpha for the last year and a half. Unfortunately, we have run into various snags in this process. We are still awaiting the approval from the Alabama Building Commission to begin removing the dryvit from the exterior and to renovate the front of the house. However, in late August, Alabama Alpha was given the go ahead and funding from SigEp National Housing to begin renovations on the interior portion of the house. Our goal was to repair and renovate the dining hall, front foyer, Doc room, and the Chapter room. As we began, it became very obvious that these renovations were going to make huge impact on our house and the Chapter's presence on campus. To date, the dining hall is nearly completed as it awaits a last coat of paint and new flooring. The foyer and Doc room are in the process of having tongue and groove walls installed. The new Doc room will be converted to a formal alumni room with new hardwood flooring, furniture, cabinets, and TV. It will be used for alumni and special formal events. The Chapter room is also getting a well-deserved makeover as we replace the tile floors and ceiling, install an additional heating/cooling unit, and install panel over the concrete block walls. Additionally, we have better secured the house with the addition of new doors and locks along with an updated security system. This is just the beginning, as we look into the future to update the dorms and other areas of the house. We hope these improvements will help the Chapter continue being one of the strongest fraternities on campus. HFF, Barry R. Holt, CPA, Esq. '87 barry@hallholt.com A labama Alpha alumni arrived in Auburn the weekend of October 22 to visit the house, meet the undergraduates, and talk about past glory days. On Friday night, about a dozen alumni and spouses joined together for dinner and then went to the house for the Frankie Ballard concert that went on late into the night. On Saturday, under sunny skies and cooler fall weather, around 30 brothers and their families tailgated on the lawn and walked the house to see the renovations of the dining room, entryway, Doc room, and the Chapter room. The undergraduates cooked barbecue and hosted the alumni for a pregame party on the lawn. Eating barbecue was a precursor to a second hog killing just hours later in Jordan Hare Stadium. I'd like to thank the brothers for hosting us and putting on a great event, and invite all alumni to stop by and see the remodeling that is underway. It was great to see everyone. Please look for details of an alumni Battle of the Bands to be held at the house in the future.
