Jeffrey Platzman '88 (A1262) and his wife, Caitlin, are still celebrating the birth of their second child from June 1, Roxanne Olivia. Her 2-year-old big sister, Lola Rae, is adjusting to her new role. Tom Doherty '99 (A1448) married Allison Zyla in Harrisburg, Pa., on August 13. The Theta Xis in attendance were Dave Halsey '99 (A1447), James Rzonca '00 (A1474), Mike LaRose '99 (A1445), Kevin Delaney '99 (A1449), Jim Ciccio '99 (A1453), Mickey Moissaidis '96 (A1391), and Don Ellwanger '00 (A1462). They honeymooned in Aruba and were very happy to celebrate with good friends and family. Rob Rivera '00 (A1464) reports his son, Joaquín Manuel, was born on Oc- tober 2. Mother Maite and child are doing well. This is their firstborn. Chapter Eternal C. Frederick Crow '47 (A601) entered Chapter Eternal on June 7. Fred, 94, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at his recent residence in Paoli, Pa. At Los Cruces, N.M., he was a bodyguard for famous rocket scien- tist Wernher Von Braun and worked with U.S. specialists on the experi- mental V-2 rocket. He then began a long career with GM. In '79, GM's new front-wheel drive cars required new types of bearings—and new machines to make them. A practical and can-do person by nature, Fred and his team convinced machine makers to carry out a downsizing revo- lution—not of staff but of machine size and ef- ficiency, making plant expansion unnecessary. Fred is survived by his wife, Dorothy, his sis- ter, his three children, 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Richard E. Nickerson '45 (A634) entered Chapter Eternal at the age of 93 on December 9, 2015. Follow- ing graduation from RPI, he was sent to gunnery school in Norfolk Virginia, then to the destroyer McLananhan in the Mediterranean and eventually was assigned to troop transport ship Robert E. Callen. Richard worked for DuPont for 35 years before retiring in 1982. He was a resi- dent of Edgewood, N.Y. Richard is survived by his daughter, Tracy, and brother, Russell. John D. Bradley '50 (A722) entered Chapter Eternal at 91 at his sum- mer home in Cuba, N.Y., on July 26. Before attend- ing RPI, he was in the U.S. Air Force. At the end of WWII, he was stationed at Truax Field, Madison, Wis., where he and his fel- low pilots used the state capitol building as a pylon and underwent training to fly B-29s for the final assault on Japan. After attending RPI and Alfred University, John began work at the Bradley Producing Co. in Wellsville, where, in 1952, he became superintendent of its Illinois division and retired as chairman of the board in 1983. He was one of the early developers of the Breckenridge Ski Resort in Colorado, a director of CONAP Corp., and the proud sole proprietor of the Bolivar Screen Door Aircraft Co. John's last adventures and stories came with fellow Air Force veteran Bill Rollo, who managed to get John and himself across the Canadian border to visit the Royal Canadian Air Force Museum with a passport that had expired 32 years ago. John is survived by his three children, eight grandchil- dren, and nine great-grandchildren. James R. Finlen '57 (A907) entered Chapter Eternal on December 17, 2013. He passed away peacefully in his home at Palm Desert, Calif. After attending RPI he entered the U.S. Naval Academy, graduating June 3, 1959, as an ensign submariner. He had a long and distinguished ca- reer in the Navy. He retired in June 1979 from the Naval Undersea Center as full commander. Jim is survived by his wife, Melan, two daugh- ters, and one granddaughter.
