Charles R. Mackey '59
(A933) entered Chapter
Eternal on April 21. He
was a resident of Glouces-
ter Point, Va. Charlie was
a gifted inventor, sailor,
and historian, who started
and successfully operated
Scomac Inc., a manufac-
turer of diamond tooling. Charlie is survived by
his wife of 57 years, Sonia, two daughters, and
four grandchildren.
Robert C. Kiefer '61 (A953) Do you have news
of Brother Kiefer's passing? Please send details
to mglaccum@geosphereinc.com.
Patrick F. Mahoney '65
(A1008) entered Chapter
Eternal in California on June
13, surrounded by his lov-
ing family. Pat was a driving
force in the U.S.-based solid
waste management indus-
try, pioneering an innovative
zero-disposal approach that
focused on the recovery of
energy and recyclable mate-
rials from waste. Another of Pat's passions was
historic preservation; he was a leader in the ef-
forts to preserve historic buildings in downtown
Albany, N.Y., that were slated for demolition
under urban renewal programs. The purchase,
renovation and commercial reutilization of many
downtown landmarks are attributed to his en-
trepreneurial efforts. Pat was instrumental in
the major renovations undertaken at the chapter
house in 1985. He is survived by his wife, Mary
Ann, who resides in St. Croix, Va., his children,
and grandchildren.
Robert P. Knorr '67 (A1043) entered Chapter
Eternal on August 26. He died quietly at Stam-
ford Hospital following a 10-year battle with Ke-
arns Sayers Disorder and its degenerative effects
on his mobility and communication. Robert is
survived by his wife, Joann, three children, and
two grandchildren.
Thanks to the generosity of Sue Armstrong, wife of Dean Armstrong '50 (A742), Alpha Chapter has
gained another wonderful memento of its past. Sue, daughter of former longtime chapter adviser Len
Ager '22 (A327), recently mailed in a photo found by family members. Based on Sue's identification
of some of the brothers in the photo, it is believed that the photo dates to the 1937-1938 timeframe,
making it nearly 80 years old. Thanks for sending this in from all of us at Alpha Chapter, Sue!
