He found a perfect fit with Sigma Phi Epsilon as they, too, made academics a priority. This paid off when Bob was tapped into Phi Beta Kappa. Additionally, being around his brothers who genuinely cared about each other made the college experience easier and more enjoyable than it may have been without it. Bob graduated with a degree in English and immediately began his studies for law school. "I graduated undergraduate on Saturday, bought my books on Sunday, and started class on Monday. Today I represent physicians in corporate and transactional matters; my clientele consists of about 150 medical groups around the state from Naples to Jacksonville. I'm considered by my partners as 'the doctor's lawyer.' One highlight of my professional career is being featured in a book titled The Best Lawyers in America, which has been published annually since 1983 and lists the top 1% of lawyers in the country. I've been fortunate to be included in every edition." Success is something that Florida Alpha helped Bob attain and he hopes that process continues for future generations of SigEp brothers. "Some of the best times of my life were at the SigEp house. It's important to continue that tradition and get the house back to where it was; we need to provide other young men with the opportunities I was given. I've done what I could in terms of the capital campaign because I believe we need to maintain a strong Chapter at UF. I hope others do the same because it would be a shame to see it go away. "I envision a strong Chapter with good academics, athletics, and an emphasis on community service which produces leaders in business, law, and government. I think the Balanced Man concept now being implemented certainly plays into that. There's no reason SigEp can't get back to being the best house on campus. Something I would pass on to the younger generation that also holds true with the campaign is 'don't do anything halfway. If you want to be good at something, you have to work hard at it.' And I can tell we've been working hard!" Bob lives in Orlando and is an avid Gators sports fan. He has season tickets to football and baseball games. He also has a passion for Civil War history and loves to read. Bob has two sons: one is the director for tax policy at Florida Power and Light in Jupiter and the other has his own optometry practice in San Antonio. You can contact Bob at rmead@deanmead.com.
