"You can take the brothers out of the fraternity, but you can't take the brotherhood out of the brothers!" –Unknown T ruer words could not have been said about the recent Beta-Chi '50s group reunion, held October 5-10 in Branson, Missouri. No one could remember exactly how many reunions we have had since graduation, but many said, "This was the best one ever!" The reunion committee reached out to over 100 Brothers from the '50s and was able to reach more than in the past. We actually ended up with our biggest turnout so far—39 in attendance (21 brothers, 15 wives, and three guests), coming from 12 states, including both the west and east coasts. There were four other couples committed to attend, but they had to cancel in the last week before the reunion due to health or family emergencies—we look forward to seeing them next time. Brothers represented initiation dates from 1950 to 1961, and two special invitees from 1978. Although some of the folks had not seen one another for many years, there was not a skipped beat in the renewing of close friendships, the telling and re-telling of favorite stories about each other (good and bad!) with much, much laughter. Of the 15 wives, 10 had been either dates or spouses during the Rolla years, so they also had lots of stories to tell! And yes, the enthusiastic singing of the old Fraternity songs was included, thanks to wayne "Rocky" Ruck '58, who has not lost his touch on the piano and never disappoints in knowing and playing any request. The reunion was held at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center in Branson, which is centrally located and was easy access to scheduled events, including the White River Fish House, Buffalo Ridge Golf Course, The Branson Belle (a great show), and the ladies luncheon at the Landing. However, the best attraction was the "BX Hospitality Room" at the Clarion. It was open all day to pop in and resume conversations—especially in the evenings, when the spouses also renewed their friendships, which have grown close through the years. The Beta Chi '50s group is already starting to figure out the next one—it is impossible to take the brotherhood out of the Brothers! Special thanks to the '50s group reunion committee: Jim Murray '57, Tom Netzer '60, Bill Ricketts '58, Bill Turner '61, Cary white '60, and Bob wright '56.
