Page 3 SIGMA PHI EPSILON CLAIMS TOP GPA ON CAMPUS Indiana Zeta Welcomes 22 New Brothers— Chapter Remains Largest on Campus T he fall semester at Valparaiso University has been full of excitement and hard work for the undergraduate brothers of Indiana Zeta. We continue to build off of the success of last semester where we reaped the benefits of our diligence when we welcomed 22 new members into our fraternity on January 22. This was 75% more than any other fraternity last spring, and is a significant reason why Indiana Zeta's active manpower is at 53 brothers, the highest on campus. We are thrilled with our current numbers and look forward to another great recruiting class over this fall and spring semesters. SOUND MIND DISCUSSIONS PREPARE BROTHERS With many thanks to the strength of our numbers, we've been able to provide a variety of events and programming to our members this semester. Brothers have participated in Sound Mind discussions ranging in topics from the effect of labor unions in Northwest Indiana, the role of ritual in everyday life, personal taxes, and politics in an effort to challenge each other to think hard about the important issues we face. SIGEP DONATES MORE THAN $4,000 SigEp's dedication to service at Valparaiso University has persisted as well. Our brothers have worked with organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club of Porter County to mentor some of its young members, an assisted-living home in Valparaiso, and the Kankakee Valley Historical Society to restore the Linden Cabin. We had our SigEp Christmas event last December that raised approximately $4,300 for Hilltop House in the form of gifts for the children and their classrooms. As usual, our brothers loved the chance to play and read with the children at Hilltop for the afternoon and watch their excitement grow. Collectively, these men have continued to positively reflect SigEp and Greek life as a whole by making a significant positive impact on the surrounding community. INDIANA ZETA RECEIvES MULTIPLE AWARDS AT CARLSON, ON CAMPUS The Carlson Leadership Academy in Chicago saw Indiana Zeta walk away with its second consecutive Donald C. McCleary Membership Development award. It was an honor to receive this award and a wonderful reinforcement of the efforts of our brothers. Also important to note, our assistant dean of students at Valpo and longtime SigEp volunteer, Carolyn Whittier, received the first-ever Distinguished Volunteer Award at Carlson. We are all thankful for the help she gives to Indiana Zeta. In addition to the awards received from Carlson, our chapter was recognized for a number of awards as a member of the Valparaiso Greek community, including the President's Award for Fraternity Excellence, the Pillar of Excellence for Faith, and the Values in Action award for the Balanced Man Scholarship Retreat. SigEp was also the top fraternity in grades with a chapter GPA of 3.378. We strive to maintain consistent success and look forward to demonstrating our commitment to excellence over the coming year. On behalf of the entire undergraduate brotherhood at Valpo, we appreciate the support and encouragement of our alumni, and are proud of the SigEp experience they and others have afforded us.
