F all semester is here, bringing with it Gator football, new classes, and the excitement of new members filling the house. We are gearing up for one of our busiest semesters yet and could not be more thrilled. At the beginning of the semester, the women of Gamma Iota had a very successful Pride Week that led into an even more successful recruitment. With the work of our fabulous recruitment team, Alison Haselden '14, Bea David '13, Jessica Rojas '15, and consultant Delanie Wallace, Florida Southern '13, we welcomed 83 beautiful new members into our chapter and are eager to watch them flourish in our sisterhood. During the craziness of recruitment, our executive board worked hard to ensure that we have a fun and fulfilling semester. After achieving our goal of a 3.5 GPA in the spring, we hope to continue this momentum. We are also encouraging our members to seek involvement outside of Alpha Chi. We got a good start last semester and should have 100 percent of our sisters involved in other extracurricular activities by the end of the fall. Our final goal is to better prepare and transition the next executive board into their role upon their election. By providing the next board with the resources they need, they will feel supported and ready to pick up on all the progress our current executive board has accomplished, while also developing their own goals for the future. We observed Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October by passing out purple ribbons at the center of campus. For our major philanthropic event, we are hosting the inaugural Alpha Chi Purple Rain on November 18, 4-7 p.m., at Hume field. It is a dodgeball tournament using sponges soaked in purple paint instead of traditional dodgeballs. The funds raised will benefit local women and children's shelter Peaceful Paths. We anticipate another thriving event and cannot wait to donate the earnings. Finally, we greatly appreciate the encouragement and dedication from our alumnae! We hope you will stop by the house to see all the beautiful renovations that were completed this summer.
