With the 49ers having advanced to a first-and-10 at Arizona's 28, holding penalties on tight end Gar- rett Celek and center Dan- iel Kilgore and a dropped pass by Chris Harper had the 49ers eventually punt- ing from Arizona's 46. "When you really kind of dissect it after the game, I think that drive right there was one we needed," Kelly said. "We needed to come away with points." • Although he was cred- ited with only one tackle, Glenn Dorsey helped shore up the 49ers' defense at nose tackle in his first start, playing 43 snaps. Dorsey has been rehabbing an injured knee all season. "I thought he made some big plays for us," Kelly said. "I think he's just building on that. He's getting closer to where I think he used to be. We need him. We've always looked at Glenn as a starter, it's just a matter of getting him acclimated and some snaps on that leg where he feels com- fortable." • Kelly is looking for- ward to having New Eng- land, smarting from a home loss to Seattle, com- ing to town Sunday. "I don't think anybody ever says, 'Let's take the week off because we can't win,' " Kelly said. "I think if you're a competitor, you get excited about playing games like this. You get a chance to go play against Tom Brady and Bill Belich- ick, if that doesn't get your blood going you're in the wrong sport." • The Hall of Fame bust of former 49ers owner Ed- die DeBartolo will be on display at the 49ers mu- seum Monday through Saturday, and then be dis- played at the 49ers alumni dinner Saturday night. 49ers FROM PAGE 1 COLLEGEMEN'S BASKETBALL Longwood at Stephen F Aus- tin:8a.m.,ESPN2. Jones is correct to point out, though, that he's hardly setting a new precedent for himself. "I played twenty-some- thing in the playoffs," Jones said Monday. "Just trying to manage it that way." SharkscoachPeteDeBoer hadn't decided as of early Monday afternoon whether Jones or backup goalie Aaron Dell would start in net against the Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena on Tuesday. The Sharks have won three straight on theroad andafourthwould guaranteeawinningrecord on their longest trip of the season. Jones has started 14 games, one fewer than league-leader Cam Talbot of Edmonton, but the work hasn't affected his play. Over those 11 consecutive games in net, one more than his longest stretch last regular season, Jones owns a 2.06 goals against average and a .919 save percentage. This six-game trip hasn't been the most taxing, ei- ther. The Sharks aren't play- ing games on back-to- back nights, they had a day off Sunday and got a full practice in on Monday. After Tuesday's game, the Sharks have another day off Wednesday before fac- ing the St. Louis Blues on Thursday in a rematch of the Western Conference fi- nal. The trip concludes Sat- urday in Arizona. Jones'onegamewatching from the bench came Oct. 18 when Aaron Dell started againsttheNewYorkIsland- ers, a day after Jones played against the New York Rang- ers. The Sharks next play on back-to-back days on Nov. 25-26. A more condensed sched- ule thus far might have Dell in the mix to play more games. So far, it has worked out that Jones has had enough rest between games to get most of the action. "It's definitely some- thing we're monitoring. We're only 15 games in, so, it's not something I'm con- cerned about," DeBoer said. "The schedule's laid out so that we've had only one back-to-back and we went with Deller.
