the Alpha Omegan p. 2 www.ufato.org determination and love that we all admire and respect in him so much. John redefined the Brotherhood at Alpha Omega. We will all be forever thankful for John's sacrifice and service to our Brotherhood; without it, I truly believe we would not exist as an active Chapter today. LAMB." -Mike Underwood '79, member and former Chairman of the Board of Trustees "John is the creed of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity personified. His bond to the national fraternity, the Alpha Omega Chapter, and the Chapter House inspires everyone to be better Brothers." -Patrick Nutt '99, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees, former Worthy Master "John's commitment to our fraternity and Alpha Omega truly defines servant leadership. Something all of us should strive for." -John Jennings '74, Board of Trustees member "At an early age, John learned the value of the ATW Brotherhood from his father, and through his leadership of the Chapter, he has now instilled that same value in the next generation of Brothers. John took his commitment to the next level by leading us along the path to restore ATW to its rightful place at the top of fraternity pyramid. It's nice to see John recognized… for the countless hours he has given to Alpha Omega…for the good of the Chapter." -Frederick J. Mills '77, Board of Trustees member "John called me about sitting in on the intervention ATW National had with our Chapter in 2008. The turnaround of Alpha Omega started the day John received the phone call from Mike Underwood '79 for help. We would not be who we are without JBPM IV." -Michael McVeigh '75, Board of Trustees Treasurer "John may be stronger, I believe, for the challenges Alpha Omega set for him. Surely, Alpha Omega will always be stronger for the examples of leadership and love he set for us." -Thomas Philpot '03, Board of Trustees "During my term as Worthy Master, John Marion availed himself to me daily; sometimes calling me back at 6 a.m. before work, other times as late as 2 a.m. His commitment to help me in spite of his business, clients, and family fueled my passion to work toward our resurrection and betterment. He demonstrated the depths of our commitment to one another as Brothers not by birth but by deliberate choice." -Alex Jenkins '06, Board of Trustees member, former Worthy Master "I asked to not have to be on the board anymore, but because of John, I was left on the slate of new directors and accidently voted myself an additional three years. Thanks, John!" -Robert Harding '78, Board of Trustees member "I am proud that my "Big Brother" has received this honor! John epitomizes service to others. I admire his commitment and dedication to his family and career! John is a true leader! LAMB." -George Etheridge IV '78, Board of Trustees member "John has been a guiding light for not only the active Chapter, but also for those of us who are lucky enough to serve with him on the board. His resolve and perseverance on this journey to reconcile the Alpha Omega Chapter have been incredibly admirable. He is and was exactly the leadership that Alpha Omega needed. He's returned the Chapter to a place we're all proud to call home and is once again developing leaders and men of high moral standards that will carry our Chapter and alumni base for decades to come." -Steven Will '01, Board of Trustees member, former Worthy Master "John's selfless and tireless service has provided the best example of what it means to be a Brother to young and older Brothers alike. The Chapter simply would not be what it is today without him." -Clay Townsend '74, Board of Trustees member "I am so very proud and honored to call John Marion my Brother, not only by birth but by deliberate choice. Alpha Tau Omega is a special institution. ATW, more specifically Alpha Omega, has changed John's life, my life, and the lives of every fraternity Brother I have come to know. We are all so fortunate to have this bond as fraternity Brothers. We are even more fortunate to have John Baptist Paul Marion as our leader. Thank you, John, for all you have done for me and our fraternity. What a better place our world would be if there were more like you in it. I love all of my Brothers, but especially my Brother John. -Greg Marion '83, Board of Trustees member John Marion '77 Honored by ATW National President (Continued from page 1) Board of Trustees Named as Upper Alpha for Ninth Consecutive Year I n addition to the exceptional active chapter honors received at the 2016 ATO Congress, the Chapter's Board of Trustees again earned the fraternity's Upper Alpha Award. Established in 1996, the award recognizes ATW's top Boards of Trustees that provide exceptional leadership and service to a Chapter. Based on available national fraternity records, the 2016 award marks the ninth consecutive year that Alpha Omega's Board of Trustees has received the honor. The board has earned the honor 13 times since the award's inception, including a previous period of consecutive honors from 2000 to 2003. The award was particularly fitting this year as ATW's national president also presented the National President Award to John Marion '77, board chairman.
