Will Wellman '01 Inspires a Cause for a Cure I n 2008, Will Wellman '01 was diagnosed with an aggressive form of FSGS, a rare and debilitating kidney disease which quickly led to total kidney failure. A close-knit group of friends and fraternity brothers rallied together to create a simple BBQ fundraiser event to raise money for the NephCure Kidney International, the only non-profit organization committed to finding a cure for FSGS and Nephrotic Syndrome. What began as a simple backyard BBQ has grown into the Tampa Pig Jig on the River, an annual waterfront blowout with great bands, delicious food, fun games, and thousands of supporters. To read about the sixth Annual Pig Jig in October, see this story featuring Will in the Tampa Bay Times: www.tampabay.com/news/success-of-pig- jig-fundraiser-overwhelms-kidney-patient-who- inspired-it/2298197.
