The Warriors have the No. 3 passer in the league and No. 2 rusher and scorer in quarterback Kavin Mc- Clellan and he'll need to be on his game against a Bull- dogs squad that has allowed an average of just 21 points per game. The Warriors beat Butte Valley 76-16 in the opening round of the 2015 playoffs, so chances are the Bulldogs will be looking to return the favor. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Butte Valley High School, 615 West Third St. in Dorris. BulldogsatBigValley BIEBER The Los Molinos Bulldogs completed their first full season in five years in 2015 and this year they're in the postseason. At 2-3 the Bulldogs enter the playoffs as the South No. 4 seed and will face the North No. 1 seed power- house Big Valley Cardinals, who went 7-0 in league play. The Cardinals have av- eraged 48 points per game while giving up just 11, com- pared to the Bulldogs' 20 for and 40 against. The Cardinals beat the Bulldogs 64-0 in Los Mo- linos on Sept. 9, but it re- mains to be seen how the Bulldogs will respond in a playoff matchup. The last time the team had a playoff game, 2007, many of its current players were not yet in elementary school. Football FROM PAGE 1 peared headed toBaltimore. He figures to exercise a $5 million buyout rather than a $9 million mutual option. The Cubs' leadoff hitter and center fielder, Fowler helped his stock with a .276 aver- age and .393 on-base per- centage. Jason Hammel, who 15 games, also has an option. YOUTH SERVED Don't ex- pect the Cubs to fade any- time soon. Not with a young core. MVP candidates Bry- ant and Rizzo are 24 and 27, respectively. Short- stop Addison Russell is 22. Second baseman Javy Baez and catcher Willson Contreras are 24. All had big moments in the post- season, and all are under team control through at least 2021. For that matter, major league ERA champion Kyle Hendricks turns 27 in De- cember. SCHWARBER EFFECT The Cubs barely flinched after Kyle Schwarber suffered what they thought was a season-ending knee injury in his second game of the season. Even so, there was no denying the impact the 23-year-old slugger had in the World Series. Cleared to hit — but not play the field — Schwarber went 7 for 17. But the Cubs could have a logjam next season if the team returns mostly intact. T h a t ' s b e c a u s e Schwarber, Jorge Soler and the versatile Ben Zobrist will all be looking for time in left field. Then again, manager Joe Maddon has shown he knows how to jug- gle the lineup and keep ev- eryone involved. MORE HITS Shut out four times, it was a boom-or- bust postseason for the Cubs' big bats. Maddon at- tributed that to the team's youth. And he expects that to be the team's biggest area of improvement. "If you look at our kids, I think if you put your scout's cap on, it's going to be easy to understand that the area we're going to get better at is offense," he said. "Under- standing themselves bet- ter, understanding what the pitcher's going to try to do against them. Under- standing how to make ad- justments in the game. Un- derstanding how to utilize the entire field more con- sistently as they gain expe- rience." Cubs FROM PAGE 1 ing factor. The Kings (2-4) committed 14 turnovers af- ter coming in averaging 15 per game. "They just got too many second chances with our turnovers and too many second chances on the of- fensive glass," said Joerger, whose team lost its third straight to start a five-game trip. "That's the story of the game." Tip-Ins KINGS The Kings signed veteran free agent G Jor- dan Farmar to a contract on Tuesday in hopes of add- ing some flexibility to the backcourt. ...The NBA an- nounced Wednesday that F Matt Barnes has been fined $15,000 for directing inap- propriate language at game officials during the Kings' 108-96 overtime loss at Mi- ami on Tuesday. MAGIC The Magic have made at least one 3-pointer in 743 consecutive games dating to March 17, 2007. It's the fifth-longest streak in the NBA. Working Late Realizing that he needed to work on his free throw shooting, Bismack said he cameuptoAmwayCenterby himselflateWednesdaynight to put up some extra shots. "I always try to do that every other day, just listen- ing to the sound of the ball and doing my game prepa- ration," he said. "I just love doing that. I enjoy the envi- ronment of the gym by my- self and sometimes I talk to myself." Kings FROM PAGE 1 | SPORTS | REDBLUFFDAILYNEWS.COM FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2016 2 B
