BETA THETA PI CLAIMS BOTH KNOX AND SISSON AWARDS Gamma Phi Strives to Exceed Accomplishments T he Gamma Phi Chapter ended last semester on a great note by winning the President's Trophy for the most outstanding chapter, along with the awards for Academic Excellence, Involvement in Campus Activities, and Service to the Community while encouraging cultural interaction and diversity. NATIONAL CONVENTION AWARDS Over the summer, we were fortunate to see our state of Oklahoma host Beta Theta Pi's 177th National Convention in Oklahoma City where we were honored with our 15th Sisson Award and our seventh Knox Award! We were also fortunate to be able to host all of our brothers for a tour of our incredible new house, as well as host a housing director session for other chapters. 51 MEN RECRUITED The Gamma Phi Chapter started off this semester with another great recruitment led by Brett Matthews '18, recruitment chairman. We have a total of 51 pledges, including eight legacies, 10 all-state athletes, three National Merits, four Eagle Scouts, four valedictorians, and eight PLC members. $4,000 RAISED FOR WARRIORS FOR FREEDOM We co-hosted a philanthropic event with our Chi Omega neighbors on the second week of school. The Read Southall band came out and put on a concert on our front lawn while we served chili dogs and snow cones. Overall, we raised more than $4,000 for the Warriors for Freedom project, which benefits veterans who have returned to civilian life. We had the opportunity to present the check to Purple Heart recipient Major Ed Pulido at chapter, where he spoke of his experience and the difference we are making in their organization. This semester, we have been partnering with the Red Cross for Fire Canvasing, which consists of groups of us going out to underprivileged neighborhoods to install proper fire alarms and smoke detectors. We are scheduling group trips to towns around Oklahoma for these service projects. None of these things would be possible if it weren't for the tremendous support of our incredible alumni. The chapter is looking forward to another great semester. Yours in _kai_, Reed Prado '13 Chapter President (281) 660-2683 rprado20@gmail.com
