Gamma Xi Anchor 5 Gamma Xi Excels in Recruitment, Philanthropy Delta Gamma Recruits 76 New Members D uring the spring semester, the Gamma Xi Chapter started off the year with new officers, a new lodge, and new beginnings. With a chapter that was 19 members over total, Gamma Xi did not take any new members in the spring. However, we did take two transfer members. We kicked off the brand new year with a spectacular philanthropy event, Anchorslam, raising over $10,000 for Service for Sight. With the many events that happened in the spring, Delta Gammas were excited to get to enjoy DG Cram during finals and relax during the summer time. RECRUITMENT SUCCESS Although most Delta Gammas went home over the summer, our recruitment evaluation committee stayed hard at work all summer in order to plan an outstanding recruitment. When work week finally approached us, our evaluation committee was ready for what was to come of recruitment. With Gamma Xi members hard at work, up to 10-hour days of recruiting, we welcomed home 76 new members this fall. After working so hard during recruitment, Bid Day seemed like Christmas to all of us. Our theme was "Out of This World: DG Galaxy." ANCHORBOWL RAISES $12,000 Throughout the first weeks of the semester, we continued to become closer with the many amazing new members. We have held sisterhood nights, watched Greys Anatomy on Thursdays together, held the new member retreat at the trampoline park in Lubbock, hosted a Dad's Weekend barbecue, and painted posters together for our inaugural philanthropy event, Anchorbowl. It was a seven-on-seven flag football tournament that raised over $12,000. Delta Gamma continues to shoot for the top with academics. We raised our chapter GPA tremendously this semester and continually encourage each other to do our best. CHAPTER EVENTS We participated in Texas Tech's Homecoming October 10-15 with Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. Our Homecoming candidate who represented Gamma Xi is Sami Spidell '13. We have a few chapter mixers planned with fraternity men as well. Presentation was October 1, in which new members were presented by their parents to the chapter. Inspiration and Initiation was held October 17-18 for our new members. Our chapter retreat is planned for November 19-20 at Hidden Falls Ranch. Lastly, Gamma Xi will elect new officers at the end of the fall semester. Gamma Xi is doing great things and we are looking forward to all we have ahead of us. We are thankful for the present and everything we have, and we are hopeful for the future.
