In her time as an undergraduate, she was very involved, serving as a chapter officer in various positions for three years. Sonja spent a year after graduation traveling as a leadership mentor with Alpha Chi Omega before attending the University of Kansas School of Law. She found that the leadership skills she learned in Alpha Chi helped her when she served as president of the Student Bar Association. Her hard work earned her the Class of 1949 Leadership Award upon her graduation. Sonja is married to a K-State alumnus and works for a nonprofit organization doing government relations and policy work in Overland Park, Kansas. Gamma Zeta's 70th Anniversary April 1, 2017 More details to come! Alumnae Update Marilyn Anderson Lucas, Ph.D. '55 and her husband, Clarence, have been happily married for 51 years. They live in Shawnee Mission, Kan. She loves to go to lunch with her Alpha Chi sisters, and attends monthly Mu Mu alumnae meetings. "We are happy to have so many Gamma Zetas in our group," she shared. E-mail: marilynlucas1930@gmail.com Janet Scott Broers '58 moved back to her family's farm in 2005 with her husband, Harley. It has been in her family since 1855 and they built a new home, horse barn, and equipment buildings. In their spare time, they enjoy riding horses and both are members and officers on the county Farm Bureau board and the board for the Wellsville Historical Society. Janet obtained and wrote a grant to restore the first bank building in Wellsville to be used as the historical museum. Recently, she joined the Daughters of the American Revolution in Franklin County. Their youngest grandson, Scott, attends K-State and their second great- grandson, Gavin, was born on September 27, 2016. Her daughter attends Virginia Tech and is majoring in civil engineering. Her son attends a premier performing arts high school in New York City and dreams of performing on Broadway. Patricia visits her family in Ness City, Kan., a few times a year, but unfortunately doesn't get back to K-State much.
