That's a bunch of bull. Words are powerful and the people speak- ing them have immense power. Words can build nations and tear them apart. Words mold our think- ing about who we are and what we believe. Words can be amazingly uplifting or horribly damning. Whatever words come out of your mouth have the ability to change lives, for better or worse. What you say about others, to oth- ers and to yourself helps define out- comes in life. Are you the type of person who says exactly what is on your mind? Do you justify saying negative things to and about others because you are a tell-it-like-it-is person? Do you yell, scream and berate people because you have nothing positive to talk about? Do you tell people everything is fine when it really isn't because you haven't found your voice of truth? Do you tell yourself that you are ugly, stupid, lazy, or use some other negative word to describe yourself? How you speak to others, how you use your words determines your outcomes in life. Just as a glass may be seen as half full or half empty, your word choices describe a lifestyle half full or half empty. It can be hard not to focus on the neg- ative. It can be hard to live day in and day out resisting the desire to correct what is wrong in the world- kids who don't clean up after themselves, spouses who operate differently than you do, co-workers who don't do their work the way you would. It is easy to fall into the trap of reacting negatively and using words that tear down esteem or team work. Finding words that inspire people isn't that hard. It is a choice to be more positive and get the results in life you want. If you don't like the way something is, you can change it by yelling, humil- iating and asserting yourself, but you will only be tearing down your relationships. If you can find a way to share your thoughts without anger, disgust and venom, you will often times get the changes you want and build a closer relationship with the ones you love. There are a myriad of ways to address a negative situation with a positive attitude. For next time you encounter someone who is in a horrible mood and is being mean and you want to put example, the Faydra Rector You Matter If you are one of those people like Eeyore the donkey and just think that everything sucks, do something to find the sunshine in the rain. Realize that one of the reasons your life is so glum is because that is all you are putting out there for people to react to. Find a book, a therapist or a place to volunteer and learn that life is as positive as you are willing to make it. Word, to your mother. them in their place. Consider just being kind and under- standing. See if their venom evaporates. Often times someone's bad mood is the domino effect of someone else having been mean to them. Katie Parks judged Dairy Goats, Aston Hubbard judged Meat Goats and Stacy Stroing judged Beef Cattle.This fall, Katie will attend Cal Poly Technical State University for a second year majoring in Biology and Stacy will start her first year there majoring in Animal Science. Ashton studies at Shasta College for her second year majoring in Sustainable Agriculture. All three plan to continue to contribute to serve their county whenever they can.
