Blaschke, M.D. '43 recalls the Collison In- firmary that was across the street from the Shelter at 630 Elm. "I was hospitalized with strep throat. Delta Alpha was having a beer bust of some kind and my pledge brothers snuck me a pitcher of beer, which I had to hide under a sheet—wonderful friends!" E-mail: jablaschke@aol.com Wayne Smith '45 cherishes all the singing he did with his Delta Alpha brothers in the Oklahoma Glee Club, which performed at Carnegie Hall in New York. E-mail: wsmith580@gmail.com George Parker '50 remembers singing Delt songs at meals, parties, and serenades. He fondly recalls bonding with his brothers and learning manners and proper be- havior from older members, some of whom were return- ing WWII veterans. "We always greeted visitors with genuine hospitality." Charles Dean, M.D. '57 was the director of the DTD glee club with two wins at the annual glee club compe- tition. He was the conductor and trumpet soloist at the annual talent show in Oklahoma City, Okla., and played in the OU marching band at the OU/Texas game in the Cotton Bowl and principle trumpet for the OU sympho- ny. E-mail: dex009@frontiernet.net Charles Ellet '58 remembers being the best glee club on campus and competing in the OU Spring Sing, which Delta Alpha won every year from 1954 through 1958. E-mail: cellet@bellsouth.net James "Cy" Morgan '59 cherishes the memories he holds from living with John "Jack" Noftsger '60 and Zack Pryse '59 at the old Shelter on Elm Avenue. E- mail: capt_cy@yahoo.com James "Jim" Cloar '62 is thankful for the lifelong friendships he made with his pledge brothers. "It's a happy coincidence I've ended up in Sunday school class with Tom Aitken '61 here in Tampa, Fla., many miles from OU!" E-mail: jcloar@verizon.net Kent Miller '62 still recalls the strong brotherhood he felt as a member of Delta Alpha, traveling with the 1959 pledge class for the Dallas Walkout, and the crazy day he and his brothers crowned the head of the William Bizzell statue with the Popey head from the DTD Home- coming float. E-mail: kent_mil@bellsouth.net. Robert "Rob" Hewitt '68 had a great time attending athletic events while at OU and is grateful for lifelong friendships with his Delta Alpha brothers. "I support and appreciate Delta Alpha for all it's given me." Stephen Cagle, M.D. '71 loved playing intramural sports with Delta Alpha brothers, especially basketball. E-mail: scaglemd@yahoo.com Charles "Charlie" White '72 dissected a sand shark in anatomy class. "Afterwards, I decided it deserved a special burial under the pillow of Fred Gist '73. I've never seen 'Poo-Bear' so mad!" E-mail: chas- whitemd@gmail.com J. Fred Gist '73 says that joining Delta Alpha in 1969 was a privilege, and became a very important part of his life during college and throughout his career. "I made lifelong friends and learned so much about leadership, integrity, and true friendship and brotherhood. I am still a member of the Delta Alpha House Corporation Board and I will always be a strong supporter of Delta Tau Delta." E-mail: jfgist1@gmail.com David Allen '75 had fun with brothers, sororities on campus, on game days when alumni would visit the Shelter, and on service days in Norman, Okla. "Life was good with a great bunch of brothers," he said. E-mail: dandballen@gmail.com David "Dave" Robinson '78 still laughs about the housecleaning when he and fellow brothers returned to the Shelter to retrieve Don Durrett '78 from being captured. He said, "We skipped out of a housecleaning in the fall of 1974, kidnapped a member, and tried to make an exchange. It was hilarious and historic." E- mail: dave.robinson@cru.org Mark Wyrick '81 remembers Billionaire Wednes- days when Delta Alpha brothers would try various red wines with sophistication and style. E-mail: wyrick.mark@gmail.com Robert "Bobby" Bell '89 still laughs at the nick- names given to his pledge brothers so many years ago. "Poopy Dawg, Chickenhead, Catfish, Horseman, Cockroach, Dooley, and Mayonnaise, to name a few!" E-mail: bellfirm@yahoo.com Grant Sparks '91 recalls how Matt Thompson '91 would invite the 1987 pledge class to his house on Lake Murry, along with Delt little sisters and other sorority girls for spring break and summer weekends. "It was al- ways a good time!" E-mail: sparksou@gmail.com Timothy "Scott" Carruthers '93 says his favorite memory is the Delt Dive with sand volleyball. "The blasting music, cold beer, and sorority babes dressed scantily—too bad I didn't have the nerve to talk to any of them." E-mail: tscottcarruthers@gmail.com Cade Campbell '10 has too many memories to count. Overall, he remembers being involved with a group of guys who decided not to settle for second best and really changed the direction of the chapter from 2005 to 2010. And all the fun he had at the annual Mekong Delta Party. E-mail: ccampbell@sm-energy.com ATTENTION: This newsletter is intended for alumni, undergraduates, and parents.
