Respect is a basic moral value or need which makes us aware that we are human beings not wild animals. In this crazy political season, the lack of respect has reared its ugly head. If you do not respect yourself, it will be more difficult for you to re- spect anyone else. One of the best ways to show re- spect for someone is to truly listen to another's point of view. Obvi- ously, we'll not always agree with one another on every topic, but we should allow each other to have and express our own views - regardless of whether we agree with them or not. As the political season winds down, let's remember to respect ourselves and others...besides, it's a lot more fun when we do! 6 www.DesertMessenger.com October 5, 2016 DESERT MESSENGER Quartzsite's FREE Community Paper Proud to be a Quartzsite Licensed Business 928-916-4235 O T - E T! Oct. 6 Residents of the Town of Quartzsite are invited to attend the next meeting of Neighborhood Watch at 6:00 PM, on THURSDAY, OCT. 6, 2016, at the Quartzsite Community Center. Chief William Ponce said he looks forward to working with the resi- dents to create a safer community. Launched in 1972, Neighbor- hood Watch counts on citizens to organize themselves and work with law enforcement to keep a trained eye and ear on their communities, while demonstrating their pres- ence at all times of day and night. Sponsored by the National Sher- iffs' Association (NSA), the Nation- al Crime Prevention Council says, "Neighborhood watch is one of the oldest and most effective crime prevention programs in the coun- try, bringing citizens together with law enforcement to deter crime and make communities safer." I woke up at three and decided to have tea and a cookie. I read where some doctor advised white bread for insomnia. Cookies dunk better. Cat doesn't eat cookies. Proper Tree Care & Fire Safety for Quartzsite Homeowners Workshop on Saturday, October 15 Quartzsite homeowners will have the opportunity to learn about prop- er tree placement and care, thanks to free workshops presented by the Arizona Community Tree Council and Arizona State Forestry. The "Homeowners Tree & Firewise Workshop" on Saturday, October 15, is designed to educate Quartzsite residents about tree selection and placement, tree care and watering techniques, pruning, and how to re- duce risk of property damage due to wildfires. With drought conditions causing an increase in wildland fire risks across Arizona and an increase in the wildland urban interface, it is imperative that community mem- bers know how to properly maintain surrounding landscapes to protect their homes. Free trees will be given to the first 20 registrants for the program! Registration information is at: http://aztrees.org/event-2180483 Homeowners Tree & Firewise Workshop Saturday, October 15 9 AM – 12 PM • Quartzsite Community Center, Chandler St. off of Highway 95 (Central), Quartzsite, AZ 85346 Contact 602-354-3023 or info@aztrees.org with questions.
