My son's father came with his new girlfriend, his step mother came from the east coast and then there was me, the original mom! My son kept saying, "Is this awkward?" But I kept re- assuring him that we're all adults and it would be fine. Even if there were issues, I figured I could make it work! Well it was better than fine; it was absolutely fabulous! When you love someone, don't you want them to be happy? My son was blessed to have his extended family present at his wedding. Some ex's can't set their issues aside for the benefit of others. We didn't get there overnight, of course, but we all worked very hard on healing wounds from the past. Starr came up with a good phrase for us - we're the original parents, version 1.0. Yes, my son is a computer geek as well as a musician. So this was ap- preciated in that eclectic crowd! What a pleasure it was to be sur- rounded by people with such a wide variety of intellect, passion, and cre- ativity. Tears of happiness flowed from young men in trendy suits who were not ashamed of showing their emotions. Music of all genre was played of course. Love knows now boundaries or flavor. Yes, the happy couple is truly blessed to have so many loving friends. But everyone who attended were allso blessed, just as we are every single day when we recognize we're surrounded by loving people. Sometimes we just get in a rut and forget we are blessed. Sometimes we forget to smile at ot- thers and miss the smiles they give us. Sometimes we just need a kick in the rear to remember that love is a simple emotion - we are the ones that complicate things. Hopefully we can keep remember- ing that love is simple and we have plenty to go around. Yes, we can really smile at strangers. We can truly trust. We can be strong while being gentle with ourselves. Yes, we can love others while taking care of ourselves. We can find the balance between love and fear of the un- known. We can allow others to be happy and celebrate in their happi- ness. We don't lose when others are happy- We can share in that joy- if we allow ourselves the pleasure! DEADLINE : WED.
