A nother great fall begins at Delta Mu! A wonderful, talented, smart, fun, and excited group of new members to share our wonderful traditions and sisterhood! To see all these ecstatic, enthusiastic faces on Bid Day is just a glance into the strong future of our Chapter. And to meet their parents and hear all the flattering things they tell us about how impressed they all are with the young women of Delta Mu, the charming and welcoming feeling of the house, the impressive philanthropy work of the Chapter for St. Jude, and other worthy causes reminds us that Delta Mu remains a truly special place. Better Bid Days Ahead I know, I know—many of you are saying maybe too many new members. The size of our quickly growing chapters on this campus is the subject of many discussions. Please know that our House Corporation board and advisors are very active members of a new Panhellenic group discussing this, and many other common issues and concerns, and are working closely with UA leadership. For instance, as a result of these meetings, UA provided each chapter with additional security and sanctions for students who participate in actions that have marred some Bid Days in the past. Additionally, the Panhellenic chapters agreed to present a united policy of limiting the crowds on that day and especially not allowing college men to participate (as is prohibited by national organizations). These changes allowed Bid Day to focus on introducing the new members and their families into the sisterhood and bonding. All the chapters on campus reported the most orderly and rewarding Bid Day in years. The More the Merrier Future discussions continue on how to address the rapidly growing number of students at UA, and especially the number of young women choosing to participate in recruitment. Even though these numbers have presented new challenges, they are also presenting new opportunities to provide the positive benefits of the Greek system to so many more young women who are the future, not only of our chapter, but of our world. And to think a few decades ago the end of the Greek system was predicted! UA now has the largest Greek system in the country. It looks different from the way we remember our Chapter fondly, but obviously we meet the needs of a new generation of young women or we would not continue to see the numbers grow. They are still attracted to finding friends, opportunities to participate in many activities, an on-campus support system, and chances to learn about leadership and philanthropy, just as we were in our college years. Growing Alumnae Support Thank you again to so many of you who continue to answer our calls for help. Our board now has 19 members, six very active advisors, and more than 50 volunteers during recruitment week. In addition, we had great response to our request for silver serving pieces and can now serve in style! Thank you to Judy Reed Sheppard '69, Donna Dearman Smith '69, Carolyn Taylor Rowell '75, and Nancy Miller Cope, Phi Theta '74. With your generous donations, we completed new projects this summer that enhanced meetings in our Chapter room and Scholarship Center with increased AV equipment, fabric boards, and house-wide intercom systems. We added letters in the back of the house and are waiting on a new door and vines this month. And the new silkscreens in the dining room have made a stylish impact in that beautiful room. Thank you, thank you for your generous and committed support in every way to Tri Delta. We hope you all can visit the house during October football game days. We are so proud that she was honored for her organization, especially as she spent the month of May cleaning out and labeling ALL of the stored items for recruitment, Homecoming, and other house events that were taking over the basement. Her self-created forms and lists have been shared and copied by other house directors on campus. Thank you, Jayne, and congrats on your honor!
