Fall 2016 The Sunflower a Publication oF the Kansas chaPter oF Delta uPsilon INSIDE: Loyal Alumni 2 DU's Newest Housemother 2 Meet the alumni advisory board 3 Welcome, New Members 4 alumni update 4 T his summer, Kansas DU alumni leaders gathered to discuss the status of the Chapter, its needs, and what we all could do to make it better. The outcome of the meeting was outstanding—more than 20 attended to assess progress and determine strategies for the coming year. This was the largest and most committed group of alumni volunteers that we've had in years. We cannot express how thankful we are for the support. One of the changes we are most excited about is the addition of our new housemother, Molly Mulloy. This is the first time in over 30 years that DU will facilitate a live-in housemother in the newly restored living quarters in the northwest corner of the house. She is fully supportive of the Chapter and our goals, and is thrilled to contribute some of her own. The alumni advisory board has begun working with the active Chapter officers and the feedback has been exceptional. The alumni team has objectives that include bringing back old DU traditions, implementing the best practices for managing the Chapter, and most importantly, returning the Chapter to glory. Please turn to page 3 to learn more about each advisory board member. The undergraduates are soaking in all of the information the advisors have to give—they're always hungry to learn more. Their hard work and dedication showed when they signed a strong and diverse pledge class of 30 new members, who are already an excellent addition to the Chapter and will do great things. While this has been a trying time for Kansas DU, we truly appreciate each and every one of you for contributing to the annual campaign. Your contributions are greatly appreciated and serve as a testament of support that keeps DU strong. In the coming months, I hope you will visit the Chapter or drop an old brother an e-mail or note. We are strong because of our DU bonds. Reach out and you will see it to be true. Last semester, most of our efforts were put toward completing our reorganization plan that was provided to us from Delta Upsilon International Fraternity. This plan included multiple community service opportunities for the brothers to become more involved in the community and give back. For example, each Tuesday, we would participate in Jubliee Café, which provides breakfast to in-need Lawrence community members in a restaurant-style setting. Out of 45 Greek organizations, we were ranked 20th in academics with a 3.14 GPA. We are very proud of this number, but hope to be in the top five for the fall semester. For intramurals, our DU basketball team finished second in the fraternity league on campus. Finally, we are proud to announce that we signed 30 new associate members this fall. All of these men hold such high potential and we know that all will be a great asset to our Chapter. This fall semester will be a very important one! We are working to organize two philanthropic events that at least raise $1,000 each. We are also confident in successfully finishing our reorganization plan, which will make us a stronger Chapter—now and in the future. Please contact me with any questions you may have.
