Warriors coach Mark Jackson said Thursday that he and his family were the targets of an extortion attempt relat- ed to an extramarital affair he had six years ago. OAKLAND (AP) — Golden State 28-year-old former stripper, Alexis Adams, possessed nude photographs of Jackson and wanted money to keep the photos from becoming public. Adams and an alleged co-conspira- The Smoking Gun reported that a tor, 40-year-old Marcus Shaw, were named in felony criminal complaints for their alleged roles in an extortion scheme, according to online records filed with the U.S. District Court in Oakland. Adams was released on $25,000 bail but Shaw remained behind bars because he has a prior conviction for aggravated robbery in Tennessee in 1996, for which he was sentenced to 12 years in prison, according to court records. didn't immediately respond to a voice- mail or email seeking comment. In a statement released by the team, Jackson said the extramarital affair occurred when he was still working as an ESPN/ABC broadcaster. He called the affair ''embarrassing'' and apolo- gized for the affair. The public defender listed for both Jackson said a man approached him this past April 3 at the team hotel in Memphis when Golden State was there to play the Grizzlies and demanded ''a substantial sum of money'' or he'd sell ''personal information'' to a tabloid. EURO 2012 SEMIFINAL | Italy 2, Germany 1 Italy shocks Germany to reach unlikely spot in final WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Mario Balotelli finally showed some quality finishing, scoring twice Thursday to give Italy a 2-1 win over Germany and an unexpected spot in the Euro- pean Championship final. Extending its winless streak against Italy in major tourna- ments to eight matches, Ger- many had no answer for Balotelli nor Antonio Cas- sano's creativity. In the 20th minute, Balotel- li had no trouble getting past Holger Badstuber to head in a pinpoint cross from Cassano. Then in the 36th, the 21-year- old striker received the ball behind the defense and blasted a long shot into the top right corner. penalty kick in injury time after Federico Balzaretti was whistled for a handball. Italy will face defending champion Spain in Sunday's final in Kiev, Ukraine — a rematch of their 1-1 draw that opened Group C. While Italy has won four World Cups, it's only Euro- pean Championship came in 1968. Like when they won the 1982 and 2006 World Cups, the Azzurri have managed to maintain their focus despite a match-fixing and betting scan- dal at home. While he did score against Ireland, Balotelli was criti- cized for wasting numerous chances against Spain, Croatia and England. Germany failed to trouble Italy for much of the match, but Mesut Oezil scored on a On a pleasant evening at the National Stadium Warsaw, Cassano set up the opening goal by befuddling Germany defenders Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng to lift the ball in Balotelli's direction. The second goal began with his chest and then sprinted for- ward and unleashed a blazing shot from the edge of the area as Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer again stood immobile. Balotelli took off his jersey after his second goal, which drew an automatic yellow card, although he will not miss the final. Even before scoring, Italy controlled the pace of the match, although Germany did have several chances from Hummels, Toni Kroos and Oezil. In the 35th, Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon preserved the Azzurri lead by swatting away a long shot from Sami Khedira — and Balotelli doubled the lead a minute later. To start the second half, a long vertical pass from Ric- cardo Montolivo, whose moth- er is German. Balotelli collect- ed the pass with his back to the goal, controlled the ball with With Germany appearing slightly more organized, cap- tain Philipp Lahm had a great look at the goal in the 49th but shot way over the bar. Buffon made another impressive save in the 62nd, leaping to push a free kick from Reus off the bar. While Italy largely sat back and protected its lead in the second half, the Azzurri did produce some dangerous coun- terattacks. Claudio Marchisio shot just wide in the 67th and 75th and substitute Antonio Di Natale missed another chance in the 82nd. Jackson said he ''regrettably'' paid the man, calling it ''a terrible lapse in judgment and a course of action I would not recommend to anyone.'' Court documents show he handed over $5,000. After the man emailed him two weeks later and called his wife asking for more money, Jackson said, he informed the team about the situation. The Warriors said they immediately contacted the FBI. In an email from Shaw dated May 3, he told Jackson he could get $185,000 ''from another resource'' if the coach didn't pay, according to the court documents. Jackson worked with the FBI to record several phone calls and monitor emails. MCT file photo Harrison Barnes gives the Warriors more size. NBA DRAFT Kings pick Kansas forward Robinson SACRAMENTO (AP) — The Sacramento Kings selected Kansas forward Thomas Robinson with the fifth pick in the NBA draft on Thursday night. Robinson was consid- ered perhaps the most NBA-ready player in the draft and the Kings need plenty of immediate help after missing the playoffs for a sixth straight season. Robinson, the first unanimous first-team All- American since Blake Griffin, led the Jayhawks to the national champi- onship game against Ken- tucky, where they lost 67- 59. He averaged 17.9 points and 11.8 rebounds per game in 31.8 minutes in his junior season and led the nation with 27 double-doubles. Robinson broke down and hugged his 9-year- old sister, Jayla, after Commissioner David Stern announced the Kings had drafted him in an emotional scene. In January 2011, Robinson received a phone call from his young sister, who told him that their mother had died of a heart attack in his hometown of Wash- ington, D.C. The two had been raised by their sin- gle mother, Lisa Robin- son. In a span of three weeks, they had also lost their grandfather and grandmother, and Robin- son's father had never really been involved in his life. Jayla is expected to move to California with Robinson. The Kings are coming off another disappointing season, finishing the shortened campaign 22- 44 to miss the postseason once again. Coach Paul Westphal was fired after just seven games and replaced by Keith Smart, who will be back for his first full season next year. With a run of high draft picks, the Kings have some pieces already in place, most notably center DeMarcus Cousins, who averaged 18.1 points and 11 rebounds per game in his second season. 5:05 p.m. CSNC 7:15 p.m. CSNB 7 6 LATE Sports NBA DRAFT Warriors owner Joe Lacob and new gen- eral manager Bob Myers had to take a red-eye flight to New York earlier this week just to get a look at Harrison Barnes before the NBA draft because his agent had a scheduling conflict. OAKLAND (AP) — Golden State Barnes is coming to the Bay Area now. The Warriors selected the North Car- olina small forward with the No. 7 overall pick Thursday night, giving the franchise a potent player at a position that desper- ately needs depth. Myers said as soon as Portland passed on Barnes at six, ''My phone almost blew up with people wanti- ng this pick and wanting this player.'' ''We're thrilled,'' Myers said. ''He is one of the best people in this draft and one of the best players.'' Myers regime. The Warriors also took Vanderbilt cen- ter and Nigerian Festus Ezeli with the 30th and final pick of the first round. The 6-foot-11, 255-pound Ezeli set Vander- bilt's record with 204 career blocked shots, breaking the mark of 157 set by Will Perdue. Size seemed to matter under the new But Barnes is expected to give a more immediate boost. 2B Friday June 29, 2012 Warriors add depth with 7th pick The 6-foot-8 sophomore, still only 20 years old, led the Tar Heels with 17.1 points per game and also grabbed 5.2 rebounds. Considered the top overall recruit when he left his high school in Ames, Iowa, Barnes has been signing autographs since the ninth grade. Now he hopes all that experience with expectations serves him well in the NBA. ''It helped me a great deal in terms of the spotlight,'' Barnes said. ''It almost kind of groomed me in a way growing up in the media.'' While he started slow at North Caroli- na, Barnes rallied to become the Atlantic Coast Conference's Rookie of the Year in 2011. Barnes shot 35.8 percent from 3-point range as a sophomore and earned First- Team All-ACC honors. He scored at least 20 points 13 times and in double figures in 64 of 75 college games. ''We are very excited about getting a quality young man, a class individual and a guy who works extremely hard,'' Gold- en State Warriors coach Mark Jackson said in a statement. ''He comes from a great program and was a star in high school, also in college. We were thrilled he was still sitting on the board.'' MCT file photo The Kings go for imme- diate help with their pick. After affair,Warriors coach target of extortion Germany coach Joachim Loew brought on Miroslav Klose for Mario Gomez at center for- ward and replaced Lukas Podolski with Marco Reus on the wing. Di Natale came on in the 70th after Balotelli went down with a cramp to his left leg. White-clad German fans greatly outnumbered Italian supporters, unveiling a huge banner before kickoff that fea- tured a giant ''G'' for Ger- many. However, most of the stadium was filled with Polish fans who supported Italy. They had plenty to cheer.
