The Lion & The Ladybug 2 To Keep Forever Sacred the Memory of Those We Have Loved and Lost Family Endowment Honors the Legacy of Toni Bertolet '81 To lend to those less fortunate a helping hand. As a physician, daughter, sister, and friend, Toni Bertolet '81 was known for her compassion and empathic heart in all aspects of her life. Time after time, she demonstrated her grace through communication and patient care. Today, this memory will be forever sacred through an endowment established by her parents for the UMMC Department of Ophthalmology. "The endowment will provide for the people who cannot provide for themselves here in Jackson," Toni's mother, Yvonne Bertolet, said. "It will also help the medical students, doctors, interns, and technicians to gain the valuable information that they need and the practice to do good work." To practice day by day love, honor, truth. Toni's family describes her as a "quite studious little engine that could," a sentiment reflective of her time at Ole Miss. Although a great deal of her time was spent studying and preparing for her pre-med courses (summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa), Toni greatly enjoyed being a little sister at ATW and the sisterhood of Phi Mu. "I think Phi Mu brought Toni out," Yvonne said. "She was not one to venture and meet people, but she was always nice to them and enjoyed meeting other people. Toni enjoyed her time at Ole Miss, and she was in the Who's Who of American Universities and Who's Who on Campus. I think that shows she was an all-around person. She involved herself in student government and the activities on campus, plus she tried to make the best grades she possibly could." Thus keeping true to the meaning, spirit and reality of Phi Mu. In reading the lines of our Creed, it is clear Toni was the embodiment of a true Phi Mu woman. "I think the Creed matches her goals and actions perfectly because these were her goals in life," Yvonne said. If you wish to contribute to the The Toni J.
