THE DRAGON'S WAGON G A M M A P S I C H A P T E R O F B E T A T H E T A P I Fall 2016 Beta Tau Alumni Corporation Sets Short- and Long-Term Goals Your Support Is Critical to the Success of Gamma Psi T he leaves are not yet changing in East Lansing, but the Beta Tau Alumni Corporation (BTAC) and Gamma Psi Chapter would like to wish all Betas, friends, and family a happy and productive fall. From an alumni perspective, the active chapter continues its excellence and shows no sign of going into cruise control. The Bogue Street house we have occupied since 2013 is a great location and we continue to rent. A BTAC-owned house remains a challenge. The word I have been using to describe the East Lansing rental real estate market is ossified; however, BTAC is working on some significant house enhancements, and your support and ideas are always welcome. We encourage you to support the chapter's long-term housing goals and also short-term projects. Your support will help us maintain publication of The Dragon's Wagon and our three yearly events that have become an MSU Beta established tradition: the Spring Green White Game and Annual BTAC Meeting, Alumni-Active Open House and Cleanup in August, and MSU Beta Homecoming Tailgate. Expenses for The Dragon's Wagon and these events are being drawn out of the investment gains in our general fund. To minimize this, the BTAC board has decided to implement Alumni Dues of $50+/year. This is common for prominent fraternities and sororities and is part of our earlier alumni traditions. See the button on this page for our website and P.O. Box if you will not be at a fall event. Thanks again to everyone who has supported MSU Betas over the past few years with funds, effort, ideas, and time. We have successfully recolonized, reestablished our MSU chapter, and garnered your financial support with the Pride in Our Past, Legacy for the Future fundraising campaign. However, over this key period of time, we lost three great MSU Betas who generously supported these endeavors and they need to be remembered. Gamma Psi is sincerely lessened by the absence of their time and help. Joe Czarnik '70, our heart Robert Baker '66, our webmaster Bill Johnson '55, our historian We also have to note the passing of Michael Bowers '15. We have a heart, webmaster, historian, and youth to remember. Thank you for supporting Beta! PAYING IT FORWARD Why John Dobben '58 Stays Connected B eing in a fraternity opens you up to a side of life and a sense of camaraderie that you didn't previously know existed. It's the sort of brotherhood that you never forget and look back at with a sort of fondness and sense of nostalgia. For John Dobben '58, Beta Theta Pi provided that and so much more. "John Burchfield '57, Russ Palmer '56, Bill Bromley '56, Jim Butterfield '57, and Burton Gerber '56 were the reason I joined Gamma Psi in the first place," he says. "They not only made me feel welcomed and accepted, but provided me with some of the greatest years of my life. The friendships, laughter, and memories you gain in Gamma Psi truly last you a lifetime." John maintains relationships with many of his fraternity brothers, primarily through MSU football, basketball, and hockey games. He connected with Bob Frunk '58 from Chicago in the spring, and looks forward to seeing Russ Palmer and Doug Coulter '56 this September in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They are planning a long weekend of sightseeing, the Notre Dame football game, and fun. "For many of us, our best friendships cultivated in Gamma Psi and have played a significant role with molding us into who we are today," he says. "I've even had Beta neighbors throughout my life, including Bob Kuhl '56 and Betas from Duke and Ohio State.
