ANNUAL Breast Cancer Run February 27 For more information call LEGENDS at In 2005 (the most recent year that CDC statistics were available) 186,467 women were diagnosed with breast cancer, and 41,116 women died from the dis- ease. Except for skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women. In North Carolina, the disease is leaving its mark as well. According to the Carolina Breast Cancer Study, every year in North Carolina approximately 5,500 women are diagnosed with invasive breast can- cer. Although the number of new cases remains high in our state, advances in research are lead- ing to improvements in both incidence rates and long-term survival. Nearly 90% of women are liv- ing five or more years after diagnosis, and 80% are living 10 or more years. Here in Fayetteville, motorcyclists are doing their part to help breast cancer patients become survivors. The 12th annual Breast Cancer Run at Legend's Pub will be held on Saturday, Feb. 27. Last year, the event raised over $5,000 to benefit a local patient battling breast cancer. "Big or small, we save them all" is the theme of the run this year, according to Holly Whitley at Legends Pub. The first bike heads out at noon, with a fee of $10 per person to participate. After the ride, the party continues back at Legends Pub, 4624 Bragg Blvd., with an auction, food and door prizes. For more information on the event, contact Legends Pub at (910) 867-2364. 12th Annual Breast Cancer Run to Benefit Breast Cancer Patients by JOY KIRKPATRICK Joy Kirkpatrick, Associate Publisher COMMENTS? 484-6200 or editor@upandcomingweekly.com 84% of our readers use our advertisers.
