On Wednesday, June 22, Pastor Mike Hobby went home to be with the Lord. The church's website states: "The Church of the Isaiah 58 Project of Arizona will continue business as usual. Our focus: Romans 8:28 And we know Quartzsite hires Jim Ferguson as Interim Town Manager Pastor Mike Hobby will be missed that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His Purpose. Look online for the time and date when we will have a ceremony at the Isaiah 58 Church to celebrate Mike's life." Equipped with real-life expe- riences of homelessness and a God-given passion for the down- and-out, a ministry opportunity in Quartzsite, Arizona presented itself. Mike and his wife Linda ac- cepted the call, and in the winter of 2003, the Isaiah 58 Project was established. Their unique ministry to the homeless became a reality. Pastor Mike's passion was to help those who are lost to find their way and ultimately for them to become who God designed them to be. For more information visit their website https://www. isaiah58project.info In June, Quartzsite Town Council entered into a contract with Interim Public Management for Interim Town Manager services. They decided on Mr. Jim Ferguson, of Surprise, Arizona, who was able to start almost immediately. Ferguson spent two days with outgoing Town Manager Skylor Miller, meeting with staff and department heads. Miller took a new job as City Manager of Williams. Ferguson served as the Winslow Arizona's City Manager for eight years, before resigning in 2013, cit- ing family health as his reason for the decision. He's been serving on the City of Surprise Planning and Zoning Commission and focusing on economic development. Ferguson will be working four days a week, Monday through Thursday in Quartzsite. Council Member Carol Kelley said, "I really like him and think he'll be good for our town!" Cruise-in suspended till fall By Joanne Winer After the excessive heat we have been having these past few weeks, and with monsoons coming soon, it was decided that the every other Saturday night, the cruise-ins held at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 769 will be suspended until this fall. The weather can do a lot of damage to the vintage, classic and antique cars, and the heat had been keeping a lot of the car owners, and car enthusiast visitors, from coming to the shows. The cruise-ins were started almost five years ago when Paul Carnevale, then manager of what used to be the Shell Station on the corner of Main Street and Highway 95, decided along with his dad Tony, to invite all the car aficionados and connoisseurs to bring their "toys" to the station to show them off — the idea being to bring people out on a lazy summer Saturday night when not much else was going on around town. The event was moved just this past year to the VFW Post 769 on N. Central (Hwy. 95) so they would have more room for all the cars, trucks and other vehicles on display. It has worked out well at that location, but now with the weather getting so hot, no one has been coming out. So, it has been decided to postpone the event until the heat and storms are over. Keep your eyes open for flyers and stories on when they are ready to resume — many people are disappointed, but understand that these vintage vehicles are pretty valuable. It would be an even bigger shame for all the time, equipment, materials and finished work to be damaged after restoration. For more information on the Cruise-Ins, please call Tony Carnevale at 916-3846.
