CBS tried a version that starred actor-comedian Kevin Meaney in the title role, and it lasted only a few months. The newer ABC take, with Mike Epps as Buck, just com- pleted its run after airing two episodes a week for the past month. Q : Why is "Supergirl" moving to The CW? —- Anne Butler, Boulder, Colo. A : Largely, it has to do with ratings. For what the show cost to make, it didn't meet CBS' viewership hopes — but the crossover episode it had with "The Flash" likely showed the potential there could be for moving it to the latter show's network, espe- cially since executive pro- ducer Greg Berlanti already has a kingdom of superhero shows there (also including "Arrow" and "DC's Legends of Tomorrow"). The challenge now will be to see how the Melissa Benoist-starring "Supergirl" is done on a lower budget — its production move from Los Angeles to Vancouver, British Columbia, being one factor — but consider that Berlanti and his team have been dealing with such bud- gets on their other shows and making them work, and we don't foresee the shift being all that drastic. It also will be interesting to see what the show does early in the new season with its iteration of Superman, to be played by Tyler Hoechlin ("Teen Wolf," "7th Heaven"). Q : I've been seeing Ree- na Ninan on CBS News lately. When did she leave ABC? — Noelle Johnson, via e-mail A : In April, shortly after she signed off as co-an- chor of the overnight "ABC World News Now" and the early-morning "America This Morning." Initially, it seemed she was going to stay with that network as a correspon- dent, but word came a couple of weeks later that she was joining CBS as an anchor for the streaming network CBSN as well as a reporter for all CBS News platforms. Ninan also had been a correspondent (based in the Middle East for a while) and producer for Fox News before her ABC tenure.
