MissouriAlpha • 2 • TheSigEpTigerHeart t hree undergraduate Mo Alpha brothers attended the 18th session of the Ruck Leadership Institute this summer at the University of Richmond thanks to Ruck scholarships funded through the Sigma Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation by alumni brothers mark schordock '84, ed clausen '84, and mike Delaney '71. A BIG shoutout to Mark, Ed, and Mike. The 2016 Missouri Alpha Ruck Scholars are Chapter President payton sanders '18, past President and current Vice President of Communications nick luisetti '17, and Vice President of Risk Management sam runge '17. The Frank J. Ruck Leadership Institute is an intense five-day event for SigEp's top rising leaders. The fraternity's best and brightest gather in Virginia over the summer for a program focused on personal leadership skills and the Balanced Man ideal. Thanks to Mo Alpha alumni who contributed to this year's annual giving program, the Missouri Alpha Balanced Man Scholarship member program was inaugurated. Based on an application process, which included 11 essay questions, four winners were selected to receive Missouri Alpha Balanced Man Scholarships, totaling $3,000. Times are changing, and I look at us as the stepping stone into a new era. We could possibly alter the whole idea and meaning behind fraternities. SigEp is moving on to bigger and better things that may seem different now, but can positively impact the lifestyles of all the men who come through in the future. Soon, people will be talking about how the change we made now is one of the best things that's happened to them." What Does it mean to you for sigep to be Different? sean Delaney '16 fred g. veinfurt scholastic achievement award Brother fred veinfurt 1903 was the long-time guiding force of the Missouri Alpha Alumni Board and instrumental in regaining possession of 405 Kentucky after World War II. Finishing his master's program this spring, Sean graduated with a 3.7 GPA and will soon sit for his CPA exam. His consistent outstanding academic performance earns him this award. freD barnes '16 ron carr top gun balanced man award Brother ron carr '71 made the supreme sacrifice as a fighter pilot during a training mission. Fred graduated this spring as a member of the ROTC program with a triple minor. He plans to fulfill his military commitment beginning in November. Fred's tremendous work ethic and strong morals make him deserving of the Ron Carr award. Jon anDerson '17 John W. hartman outstanding brother award Named after prominent alumnus John hartman '61 and, perhaps, Missouri Alpha's most prestigious award, this recognition is given to a brother of the highest quality. Jon's display of our fraternity's cardinal principles at all times proves him worthy of the Outstanding Brother Award. John Douglas '16 missouri alpha best athlete award Sound body is an important part of Sigma Phi Epsilon's development plan. John's athletic success while maintaining a strong GPA grants him the Best Athlete Award. alex smith '17 phillip cox award for Distinguished leadership Named after late Grand Chapter President phil cox, this award is given to a member who shows unconditional leadership and guidance, even in the face of adversity. This year's recipient is past Chapter President Alex Smith. payton sanDers '18 the balanced man award Given to our most promising new member, Payton's immediate display of leadership upon joining the chapter makes him deserving of the Balanced Man Award. Fraternally, nick luisetti '17 2015-16 chapter excellence awards c ongratulations to the recipients of our 2015-16 Missouri Alpha Chapter Excellence Awards. These awards are given each academic year, honoring brothers who have contributed meaning, purpose, and dedication to the Missouri Alpha Chapter. Chapter Excellence Award recipients: Payton Sanders '18, Sean Delaney '16, Fred Barnes '16, John Hartman '61, Jon Anderson '17, Alex Smith '17, and John Douglas '16.
