"This is big for us," said CHP Officer Dave Madrigal who cre- ated the program. "It's a way for us to bring awareness and help build relationships within the community. It's a chance to edu- cate the public on what we do and how we do it." A lot of times, people form an idea of how law enforcement works based off of movies or the Internet and this is a chance for them to learn about it first hand from officers, Madrigal said. Initial results released around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday showed incum- bent Steve Chamblin leading chal- lenger Richard Lawrence 684 to 475, or59percentto41percent,intheDis- trict 1 Supervisor race. Incumbent Candy Carlson was ahead of former supervisor Sandy Bruce 500 to 377, or 57 percent to 43 percent in the District 2 Supervisor race. The proposed half-cent sales tax increase for the city of Corning was winning 185 to 131, or 59 percent to 41 percent. As of 3 p.m., there were 80 people who voted in the Red Bluff precinct fourand70attheprecinctthreepoll- ing stations, both located at the Red BluffCommunityCenter.Thosenum- bers do not include the vote-by-mail ballots turned in at each location. More than 35 people had voted at the Tehama County Library poll- ing location with about 70 vote-by- mail ballots turned in by 2 p.m. and more than 100 people showed up at the Dibble Creek Fire Station polling location to cast their ballots. New election machines were used forthefirsttimeinthiselection.This updated voting system provides a quick and efficient way to tabulate the votes made at each polling sta- tion.
