And that's exactly the point of the Chow Down Downtown, formerly the Small Plate Crawl - to give you a taste of a restaurant that makes you want to come back. We have so many restaurants in Fayetteville, it's a really great opportunity for those restaurants to showcase what they do. The Chow Down Downtown brings together the idea of cele- brating local food with trying something new in this three-day event. The is the way the Chow Down Downtown, formerly the Small Plate Crawl, works is restaurants prepare a special menu of 5-7 small bites, either smaller versions of current dishes or completely new dishes, each priced from $5-$10. Participants or "crawlers" receive a passport listing all of the participating restaurants. Passports can be picked up at many downtown restaurants and merchants. Then crawlers are invited to visit and try one or two small plates at one restaurant and then move on to another restaurant. Crawlers get credit and are entered for prizes based on how many restaurants they visit. This year's prizes include the Grand Prize of a cabin stay and wine tasting at Lu Mil Vineyard, cases of wine and many gift certificates from local Downtown businesses. Restaurants owners and staff want everyone to be able to go to a restaurant, get a taste of that restaurant and walk away with a sense of what that restaurant is and then hopefully, you'll go back for a longer meal, maybe a bigger serving of the plate you got a bite of that you fell in love with during the event.
