Fayetteville, NC 28303 CUMBERLAND The Institute for Community Leadership is accepting applications for the 2016-2017 class, beginning in September. The deadline to apply is July 11. The ICL is designed to develop and empower community members, especially those not previously identified, who are able and willing to commit to leadership and service roles in addressing important issues in Fayetteville and Cumberland County. The institute is a joint effort sponsored by the City of Fayetteville, Cumberland County government, Cumberland County Schools, Fayetteville State University, Fayetteville Technical Community College and Methodist University. Graduates of the 2015-2016 class were recognized in April during a dinner at Fayetteville State University. The leadership program holds seven monthly training sessions from September through April, excluding the month of December. Sessions are held in different locations from 6 to 9 p.m., usually on the third Tuesday of the month. Applications and a full list of requirements are available online at http://leadership4us.org. Anyone interested in applying for the leadership program must be a registered Cumberland County voter, agree to attend every session if selected and be willing to sign up as a volunteer with one community organization. Leadership Program Accepting Applications co.cumberland.nc.us The Cumberland County Public Library and Information Center's Summer Reading Program runs from June 1through Aug. 15 at all eight branches. The annual program encourages children, teens and adults to read. Rewards and prizes are offered based on the number of reading hours logged or the number of books read. This year's program features a sports theme. Participants can enter drawings for cash and gift cards from $25 up to $100. Summer Reading Program Offers Fun, Prizes Children and teenagers ages 5 though 19 can participate in the Cumberland County Cooperative Extension 4-H Youth Development program's Summer Adventures Program. Participants must have a current 4-H membership enrollment packet completed. Class size is limited, so early registration is encouraged. Most workshops require a registration fee. Early voting is for the N.C. Congressional primary. The ballot for Cumberland County voters includes Republican primary races for Congressional Districts 8 and 9, as well as the non-partisan N.C.
