SPRING 2016 ED DOO R R ALABAMA BETA s THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA SIGMA PHI EPSILON THE CHAPTER HOUSE CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN THIS WINTER Support Needed for Alumni Room—Will You Invest in Alabama Beta? O n March 21, the Alumni Volunteer Corporation (AVC) mailed a letter to all Alabama Beta alumni on the status of our plans for the new Chapter House. As you may know, our original plan was to renovate the house at 416 University Boulevard that was previously the KA house and move into the house this fall. Through negotiations with the University and SigEp National Housing, however, it was decided that we would undertake a far more extensive renovation that would result in our Chapter having a house that would accommodate our needs for decades to come and include features and an environment comparable to other houses on campus. Because of the expanded scope of this multimillion-dollar renovation, it became necessary to move our occupancy date to fall 2017. Construction is scheduled to begin in December and will take approximately nine months to complete. Greek Resource Services (GRS) in Tuscaloosa, which specializes in helping Greek organizations plan and manage multimillion-dollar construction and renovation projects, will be our construction manager. Although the renovations will delay our original plans for the Chapter to move into the new house, we believe that the opportunity to make significant improvements beyond our original scope of work and to have the University finance a project of this magnitude far outweigh this one-year delay. As we've mentioned before, the plans for the new house include an alumni room, which will provide alumni with a dedicated place to gather on football weekends, and will also be used for the Chapter's executive board meetings and other special functions. The room will also house Chapter memorabilia, including older composites and other photographs. For the past year, we have been raising funds to furnish this room as it is our intent that alumni donations will be used exclusively for this purpose. We have raised half of our $8,000 goal for alumni room furnishings. If you would like to make a special contribution to this project, please send your check to AVC Alabama Beta, P.O.
