HONORS RedBluffUnionHighSchoolscholarshipsandawardspresented Shasta College an- nounces its 66th Annual Commencement ceremony which will take place, 7 p.m. Friday, May 20, in the Me- morial Stadium — football field. To date, there are 885 applications for diplomas, 190 applications for certif- icates, and approximately 495 confirmed participants in the commencement cer- emony. Dr. Helen Benjamin, Chancellor of the Contra Costa Community College District, is this year's com- mencement speaker. Dr. Benjamin is in her eleventh year as Chancellor of the Contra Costa Community College District (District). Dr. Benjamin has a Bache- lor's degree in English and Spanish from Bishop Col- lege in Texas where she graduated magna cum laude, and earned her mas- ter's and doctoral degrees from Texas Woman's Uni- versity in Denton, Texas. She has never lost sight of her roots as a teacher, hav- ing taught high school Eng- lish in the Dallas Indepen- dent School District, and looks for opportunities to turn challenges into teach- able moments. Dr. Benjamin is a board member of the Kennedy- King Scholarship Memorial College Scholarship Fund, a county-wide effort to pro- vide District students fi- nancial support to continue their educational goals at a four-year or graduate insti- tution. REDDING Shasta College's 66th annual commencement set for May 20 The public is invited to attend the Old Time Coun- try Fair, 4-8 p.m. Saturday, June 11 at Ridgeway Park, hosted by Whittenberg Country School, a small, private, K-8 school located west of Red Bluff. The school is near Ridge- way Park, which it uses for various events through- out the year. The Old Time Country Fair is next major schooleventatthepark.The OTCF will have midway- type foods, carnival-style games, live music, farm an- imals, and informational and vendor booths. Admis- sion is free and game tick- ets are just 10 cents each. The Old Time Country Fair is one of three major fun- draisers that WCS holds at Ridgeway Park each year. Whittenberg is currently in its regular enrollment pe- riod, and the school will be holding two informational meetings in the next few weeks, for families inter- ested in possibly enrolling their children for the fall. The first meeting will be from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Ridgeway Park, and the second meeting will be 6-7 p.m. Thursday, May 26 at the school.
