The animated children's show focuses on the children of characters from the original Neighborhood of Make-Believe that was featured on Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. It is taking the groundbreaking show Mister Rogers' Neighborhood and updating it for a new generation. The main character, Daniel Tiger, is the son of Daniel Striped Tiger. Other characters featured also have parents from Mister Roger's Neighborhood. Katerina Kittycat is the daughter of Henrietta Pussycat for example. The show focuses on teaching life lessons through stories about the characters and songs that reinforce the themes of the stories. The lessons are tai- lored for preschoolers and focus on social-emotional lessons. These lessons help to prepare them for school and for life in general. Traditionally it is in the form of two 11-minute segments that are linked by themes. On the Crown Coliseum stage, the live performance will be a little different, though still revolving around the important lessons needed to prepare young children for their futures in school and beyond. The musical is interactive and features familiar characters from the television show. The audience will join Daniel Tiger as he explores the neighborhood by way of the trolley. They will share stories, lend a help- ing hand to friends and have new and exciting experi- ences. This live production is vibrant, full of laughter and engaging with all of the amazing singing and danc- ing kids will expect. There will even be some heartfelt surprises. If your little one loves Daniel Tiger's Neigh- borhood, this live performance is an amazing adven- ture. The only other stop on the show's tour in North Carolina is in Charlotte. So this really is a can't-miss event for any kids who loved Daniel Tiger. Additionally, this is a great way to expose kids to the show. You don't have to be familiar with the characters to enjoy the performance. It is accessible to any preschooler with a love for music and cute tigers in red sweaters. The cute stories and characters can be fun for parents as well. The TV series has received a tremendous amount of acclaim. It was nominated for a 2015 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in a Preschool Animated Program. Other awards include a 2015 Parent's Choice Gold award. In November 2014 it was also #3 in it's demographic. Continuing with idea of providing content for a new generation it was also one of the most popular streamed television shows. Just like Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, this television program is educational and engaging. This combination of en- tertainment and learning is popular amongst children and parents. Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood Live! is on stage at the Crown Theatre on May 13 at 6:30 p.m. Ticket prices range from $20 to $50, and are available online at the Crown website or by phone at 438.4100.
